Thoughts on Plastic Plates for Food Stations??

hbride2025, on June 24, 2024 at 9:52 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 5

So we're doing 3 active food stations for our wedding:

1. Beef tenderloin with potatoes and green beans

2. Pasta Station

3. Grilled cheese and soup station

Our caterer informed us we'll have to get at least 3 plates per person and 1 bowl per person, assuming everyone will go up to the stations at least 1 time. I'm happy to rent all these plates but there's going to be upwards of 180 guest so roughly 4 rental plates per person puts us at having almost 800 rented plates.

I thought about renting nice plates for the table to act more as a "charger" for the aesthetic I'm going for, and then getting "fancier," clear plastic plates/bowls for the stations to cut down on the cost and volume of the rented ceramic plates.

I'm not sure if that will be weird since we're doing so much with all the food for our wedding and it's a big part of the guest experience. I know most people won't care but wanted to hear others opinions on this. Should I go the route I'm thinking or just get all ceramic plates?

Thank you!!

I don't think that sounds too weird at all! It will make it a lot easier to keep track of the rented plates (because there would be less to keep track of) and you don't have to worry as much about someone dropping their fancy ceramic plate in the buffet line. If the plastic is strong enough, nobody will care

If within your budget, I advise renting reusable ceramics/ china over one-time use plastic. It is far better for the environment. A rental agency will haul out your dirty dishes as is, and clean them back at their site. Plus, I believe you wanted to create more formality e.g. chargers? So this would extend to your choice of table settings.

I'm going to go ahead and make a plea for the environment. One-time use dish wear for 170 people will be significant. I just don't think I would be good about doing that. I would go with LM's suggestion.

I agree - that was my original plan but was just hearing a push from people to go plastic but I do want to be environmentally conscious. Thank you!

Thank you! I agree. I am going to go that route and just do the rentals!
