Thoughts on stopping my pill

Kristen, on February 1, 2017 at 8:36 AM Posted in Fitness and Health 0 6

Hi all, my FH and I aren't in the best relations since I've been back on the pill the last 7 months. I was my real self off the pill, and had barely any moodiness or standoffishness as I do now... We've got three months to go before our wedding and I am considering stopping my pill at the end of this pill month and risk the chance of having a weak or possibly even heavy period on my wedding day... Would love any insight or wise words, as I feel seeing my doctor would just say to stick it out or change pills until the wedding (after which I'll stop taking it anyway).

I have read some people's posts who have had to deal with their monthly on their wedding day... but I'm super worried about ... leakage... TMI sorry.

I can't remember what it's called exactly but there is a temporary pill you can get to delay your period. I got it like 10 years ago before I went on vacation and it worked perfectly! Could be a good alternative for you. I'm sure your doctor would be able to tell you the name or give you more options.

I wouldn't want to risk being on my period on my wedding. I stopped my pill a few months ago to see if my period would regulate itself and luckily it did so I know I won't have to worry about that on my big day. If you're not sure about yours, then I would stay on the pills.

You need to go talk to your doctor about this, not an internet forum. You might not be on the right dosage and that could be causing the moodiness/standoffishness - this is something a doctor could tell you and try to adjust. There are so many different birth control options available and they are not all the same. Consult your doctor. Please. Don't just assume they wont listen to your concerns (if they don't listen to your concerns, consider finding a new doctor).

I had my period on my wedding day....a bit inconvenient at times? Yes. Did it ruin or impact my day noticeable? Nope! If you don't feel like yourself and want to stop taking it, I say go for it-but I do suggest speaking with your doctor as well. Just prepare yourself for other side effects like @LeahH said, my skin was terrible after stopping mine abruptly a few years back..but well worth it because I had the same mood issues you are describing.

Agreed with @leah- my skin was awful after stopping the pill. I would try to hold off until after the wedding! When I spoke with the doctor about this she said it was pretty typical and the normal process of your hormones balancing back without the reliance of an added supplement. At the same time, I've had friends stop without these effects. You know your body best Smiley smile

I discussed this with my doctor and she gave me a lower dose and it's worked wonders!
