Thoughts on US Honeymooon- April wedding 2021

Jackie, on December 7, 2020 at 12:32 AM Posted in Honeymoon 0 10

Because of Covid, we have been discussing our honeymoon options. We are from NJ and we are getting married in NC. We are not planning on flying, we do not mind driving. We are tossing the idea of doing a multi-location. Possibly TN ( Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge) and/or FL.

Both offer great option for outdoor excursions, especially FL. As far as meals, we wouldn't be indoor dining anywhere (take out/curb side). We are worried because those two places have more cases then NJ.

We don't want to do any heavy populated touristy areas.

This whole Covid thing has made it a struggle and its a shame Smiley sad ...so stressful!

Also advice for pricing would be helpful. All inclusive or mix and match? Airbnb or resort? Too many options!

I would probably do something like rent a cabin in Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge. If you wanna decrease risk, someplace with less people/less interaction would be best.

I agree with this. I feel like Florida is definitely a tourist state and there numbers have always been ridiculous when it comes to Covid because people are still taking vacations there

There’s VRBO- put in the location(s) you want to stay & book it. I agree with the others about FL. We’ve used VRBO before & loved it. You’re away from the crowds in a hotel. Bought our groceries at a local store & cooked our own meals.

Well. FL has roughly 2.5x the number of active cases as NJ, but also roughly 2.5x the population so in relative terms the prevalence is similar. At this point pretty much everywhere is in the red so it is up to you to determine if you're comfortable with that or not.

Gatlinburg is very touristy and very busy. I would probably suggest a remote cabin + hiking somewhere on the Blue Ridge Parkway, or an all inclusive in FL so you can stay in your room if interaction with others is a concern.

Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge would be beautiful in April! Lots of things to do. My friend and her husband went there on their honeymoon recently and had a great time. They rented a cabin and picked activities they wanted to do. There's plenty of covid friendly excursions (driving through Smoky Mtn. National Park, hiking, horseback riding, etc). TN would probably be the less expensive option too (even if you rented your own cabin).

My FH and I are hoping to go to Florida in June of next year because we prefer the beach over mountains and can drive there. We are looking at an all inclusive resort in Key Largo.

Honeyfund and Traveler's Joy are popular options, as are cash funds through whatever wedding website you're using. Honeymoon funds and other cash gifts are rather controversial, however, especially on this site.

We are going on a mini-moon right after our wedding this weekend. We are also getting married in NC and will have our car. FH planned a couple of nights for us to travel around NC and Virginia to the various historic sites and wineries/breweries. There are no all-inclusive resorts in that area so if you are looking for that kind of experience, I would book a sweet little cabin Air BNB and stock it up at the grocery store with the things y'all would want or need for your time there. You could even come up with your own theme nights! One could be a movie night with gourmet popcorn and tons of blankets. Another could be an evening in Italy complete with good wine, cheese and cooking slow red sauce and dancing around to romantic music. I think you cannot go wrong with a romantic time in the mountains of NC/TN we LOVE it there and we have traveled the world.
