Thoughts on wearing a fake / decoy engagement ring?

Dilemma: my engagement ring a 1/4 size too big. during the winter because my fingers shrink so the ring is a little on the loose side and while I know “ring snuggies” are an option I’m not a super fan. I also feel like the silicon rings aren’t my style and I don’t like it on my hand.

I don’t wish to get my ring sized down because in the summer my fingers swell up to the size of sausages 😆. My wedding band is a 1/4 size smaller than my engagement ring and if placed on the opposite side of my ring it holds it securely in place so I’m not too worried about it.
For months I’ve been telling FH that I’ve been thinking of getting a fake / decoy ring but I’ve yet to pull the trigger. Today, my hands were super cold and ring slipped off and hit the floor. I’m thinking of spending no more than $30 max if I do pull the trigger.
Has anyone gotten a fake ring to wear when you’re unable to wear the real thing?

My mom, aunts and several of my friends have fake e-rings & wedding bands that they use when traveling. I think it’s a great idea for “high risk” situations like traveling, or activities where it could be damaged or lost (like yours being too large and sliding off your finger)

Oh that’s great to know that I’m not the only one who’s thought of this! Do they ever choose to not wear their “real set”? Or do they ever get too comfortable wearing the fakes that they forget about the real thing? Sounds silly but that’s my MOHs concern for me.

My MOH said “that’s what insurance is for, and if you get a fake ring you might never wear the real thing again.” While insurance is a great thing, it can’t replace the sentimental value! We had a Catholic betrothal ceremony where we had my engagement ring blessed by the same priest who’s performing our wedding ceremony. I would be super hurt if I lost it or something happened to it.

As far as I know they all wear the real rings most of the time, but switch them out when traveling and leave the real ones in the safe at home so they don’t get lost or stolen. I plan to get a nice fake set for traveling also. I feel the same way you do- there is a lot of emotional attachment with my rings and I’d be devastated if I lost it! Insurance cannot replace that attachment.
I will say though, my e-ring is really big on me in the winter as well (like slip right off big!) and I wear a soft coil ring sizer and it works perfectly! I barely even notice it’s there!

Yes, the struggle is real when the hand shrinks 😔 I’m glad I’m not the only one out there with the issue.
I didn’t even know those coils existed! I have the ring Snuggie from Walmart and it’s kind of uncomfortable; none of the sizes fit my ring well, and it feels bulky! I’ll definitely check out these coils!

I know exactly what you’re talking about- a jeweler gave me a ring huggie and it was terrible! Super thick and uncomfortable. The coil is sooooo much better

I had our jeweler add these on to my ring. He did it for free and it doesn’t feel weird on my finger. He also said that it doesn’t damage the ring and can be removed in the future with no issue. My finger tends to swell and then shrinks with weather and haven’t had any issues with adding this on. Love it! Also like that you can’t see it

I just ordered this ring from Amazon & it comes from MetalMasters. I got my fiancé’s wedding band from them & the rings are of great quality. I wanted something to wear when we take my ring in to get soldered in March.

I have a decoy set and I wear them pretty often! I spent around $90 on the set (from Pescara Jewelry on Etsy). I needed to get real sterling silver so it wouldn't turn my finger green, but the diamond is cubic zirconia. I wear the fake ones when travelling, running quick errands, etc. I've been wearing them more often during the pandemic because I don't want constant hand sanitizer to damage my real ones. Having the decoy set was a must-have for our honeymoon because I don't trust hotel room safes in foreign countries!

I have friends who bought a fake set because their wedding set no longer fits. And they wear it all the time. They got theirs from amazon, so it was def. on the cheaper side.

I wouldn't spend the money. If it doesn't fit or you can't wear it, it is ok to leave it at home or put it on a necklace.

I have the ring coil for my ER, but I’ve been using my simple wedding band now during COVID. My ER and fancy band are in their boxes.

I got a fake ring to wear while my original ring was being resized (since it took 1 month). I bought a CZ ring at Target for about $15. It held up really well but did make my finger green toward the end of the month. If you do get a fake ring, I recommend CZ as the stone since it looks similar and is affordable, but make sure the metal of the band won't turn your finger green. Hope that helps!

QVC has an amazing line called diamonique. Set in sterling silver and 14k gold. I have a set that I plan on using for travel and have other pieces from this line that I have had for years that still sparkle like new.

Thank you everyone for all of your feedback and advice. I ended up pulling the trigger one via Amazon and it should arrive today!

Thanks for all of the input. 😊 now I won’t care if I lose it or it gets banged up.

This is what I went with, which is not 100% similar to mine and is kind of over the top (FH’s exact words “it’s huge, of course you liked It 🙄 haha) but it was only $17 and is 14k gold plated sterling silver so hopefully my finger won’t turn green!

Such a great idea! I never thought about that until I read this post and then I started looking at some from Amazon that looks just like my real ring! I think I'm definitely going to do this as well!
