Time on Wedding Invitation

Jennifer, on September 26, 2021 at 1:47 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 7
I’ve looked at other posts and can’t seem to get a consensus. On the invitation, should we put the time the ceremony actually starts (6:30 PM, in my case) or pad the time on the invitation by like 15 min (6:15 PM)? There’s quite a debate on that. I know my guests and about half of them are Filipino and are always late to EVERYTHING, but the other half is punctual. I’m having a hard time deciding what to put. I don’t want the punctual people have to wait an extra 15 min, but that pad could be just enough time for late people to arrive. Maybe put 6:30 PM on the invite and add a “Please arrive 15 min early” blurb on the details card? Thoughts?

It’s the time that you start your walk down the aisle. Guests know to arrive up to 30 minutes prior to get seated.

You can add a note that says “Doors close at (15 minutes before)” listing that precise time. If you have latecomers, that is on them.

It’s like embedded in Filipino culture to be “fashionably late” haha. I think I’ll get a lot of unhappy (Filipino) guests if I make things start on time, but you’re right that it’s the way it should be.

Your invitation should have the time you expect the processional to begin. Most people will show up 15-30 minutes ahead and if you put a false start time, they will be irritated by the delay. I think Michelle's right though, you should put something about the doors closing early, that way people are aware that lateness will not be accepted.

Would you suggest putting that on the phase of the invitation or on the details card? I think I have space on both.

As Michelle noted, that should go on the invitation itself.
