Typically one year in advanced would be good to start planning. It gives you time to look at different venues, discuss budget and wedding colors etc.

You don't have a date until you have a venue. Set a budget first and then get your venue soon as Covid weddings have been pushed back and the next two years are very busy. You can wait awhile before booking the rest of your vendors.

I would start sooner than one year out. The average engagement length before COVID was 15 months but now, because so many couples are postponing, the dates are getting booked up faster. I recommend looking at venues this coming December or January.

I started two years out and still had vendors turn me down because they were booked. I would suggest starting as soon as you can. First step is a venue.

Find a venue you like and set a date. You don't have an official date until you pick a venue and then start finding vendors you like and reaching out. Some might tell you it's too early to book with them yet but they generally will give you a date of when to reach back out to them to re-discuss. With weddings being pushed back from covid you'll probably book out faster than usual
