Timeline, "cocktail Hour" etc. - Looking for Advice

Good Evening Everyone,

So, I'm trying to nail down the timeline for the big day so I know what to set up with the caterer. We have about 60 adults and 20 kids invited.

Here is the general plan:

Wake-up time(TBD) - 2:30 pm - Getting ready, drive the half mile to the venue, layout the decorations.

2:30-4:15/4:30 - Photographer arrives. Decor photos, first look, all groomsmen and bridal party photos, photos with our parents, maybe some couples photos.

4:15 - guests start arriving

4:45-5:15 - Ceremony

5:15-5:45 - Guests (including bridal party and family) walk over to the reception room, find their seats. Bar opens (beer, wine, soda and water). I'd like to avoid appetizers if possible, but the timing makes me nervous. FH & I head to the roof for a few quick photos.

5:45-:7:00 - DJ asks everyone to take their seats, announces us, we sit and first course and table wine is served immediately. Toast during main course.

7:00 - 7:30 - first dance, cake is cut, we thank everyone for coming, and dancing opens.

7:30-10:00 - Dancing. Last call at 9:30 or 9:45 at the latest (venue rule). Photographer leaves at 8:30.

As a guest, how would this feel? I could list 4:45 as the reception time and 5:45 dinner on our website and invites still, so guests aren't starving for 30 minutes. I just want a small breather for FH & I between the ceremony and reception. 30 minutes would be the maximum.

I think if you're serving alcohol you need to serve food. It doesn't have to be anything fancy but something so people don't get too tipsy lol

I agree with having food with drinks - I'm essentially going for dinner to be served right after the ceremony but want to give people enough time so they aren't stressed trying to get their butt into the dinner chair before the first course hits the table and for beer drinkers to be able to order their first brew. Maybe 20 minutes is better?

edit: or I could just open the beer and wine (we're not having liquor) at 5:30, giving people 15 minutes to find their table? Water pitches will already be on tables in terms of actual thirst.

Yeah that should be enough for people to just grab one drink

Thanks for the replies. I'm trying to figure out the best way to make the gap large enough that 80 people can settle themselves down but not so large that food is needed right before food.

How do you all feel about the rest of the timeline?

Thank-you! I think I'll just do dinner right after the ceremony but tell the caterer to let people sit down first.
