Timeline of Weekday wedding

Hannah, on October 18, 2019 at 10:21 PM Posted in Planning 1 3

18 days away and I don't have Invites or Wedding Website up yet because I can't figure out my timeline.

Guest total = 10, and everyone was told the Venue and Date back in September. (got engaged in August. We're doing an intimate family elopement)

But my brother is the only one who knows how to do lights on Wednesday night church, so he has to leave the ceremony venue by 3:30pm. He didn't remind me of this until after I booked my venue for 2pm-5pm.

I wanted to do it then because the photos will be best 4:15-4:45, and the venue closes at 5pm. That gave me half an hour to get ready, an hour of First Look photos, a ceremony at 3:30, and family photos for 45 minutes before going to dinner.

But now I can't figure out my timeline!

I could do my makeup and hair before arriving, get dressed at the venue at 2pm, do a short 15 minute First Look while guests are arriving (????), a 3pm wedding, and family photos with my brother first, and then he leaves.... but that leaves me with 2 hours and much money wasted... No guests, even family, are gonna stick around for 2 hours while we do photos before going to dinner.

Our current reception plan was to take family out to a casual Italian dinner. No "Reception" traditions (dancing, cutting cake, speeches).

A cocktail party at the venue would've been cute, but we can't bring any food or drink.

Another idea was to do a short wedding, everyone goes home instead of doing dinner, and we do married photos after the ceremony. We could do a dinner reception on another day, but we've got one of those families that no one is gonna really care too much by the weekend...

What do I do??

Can he teach someone else how to do the lighting at the church over the next two weeks? They really should have more than one person with that knowledge anyway.

I did tell him That would be ideal. He is the type of person though who, while he’s really intelligent, thinks he’s the only one who could learn it and do it well.
i told him the new person doesn’t have to do it well, they just have to be able to do it for one night. :/

    Hey Hannah!

I'm sorry this conflcit has arose.

I would try to speak with your brother again and see if he would be willing for one night to show someone else how to do it due to the conflicts with your timeline for family photos.

Unfortunately, I don't see any other way you can change the timeline around to suit him, without having your guests waiting around the 2 hours for dinner.
