Tip for makeup trial ?

Lindsey, on June 26, 2017 at 8:08 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 19

Do you tip your MUA after she does your wedding trial ? I know she is doing "service" but it still seems a little weird

Add ins: I am using her as my MUA and have used her before. She is still requiring I get a trial before she will make a contract

My MUA is also my hairdresser...I would treat tipping her as you would your own hairdresser.

I would say the tip would be using her on the day of.

She requires a trial in order to provide service that's why I was asking .

A haircut are less temporary then getting makeup and pretty much taking it off in an hour

Don't take the word "trial" too literally in this sense. It's only a trial for you, to allow you to try different looks and help you determine if you want to use that person on your wedding day.

For the makeup artist, they're performing the same service they would if someone needed makeup for a photo session or a big night out or any other reason, and you should tip them accordingly. Otherwise (especially if you don't choose them for your wedding day), you've cost them an appointment time they could've used on a client who would have tipped.

Casey she's paying for the service, if she decides not to use that MUA obviously she wasn't happy with the service provided. Why should she still tip? I don't believe in rewarding a job poorly done.

I tipped my hair trial but honestly didn't even think of it for the makeup trial (different lady). She charged me $60 which was also considered a deposit/went toward the total for my wedding day service. I'm not saying I was right, it just didn't cross my mind. I'll definitely be tipping the day of.

Lol @Chivy. What if she's done multiple trials and simply liked one better than the other? It doesn't mean the one she didn't choose did a lousy job and shouldn't be tipped. Don't be cheap. If the vendor did what you asked, you should tip them.

Casey- I disagree. I mean I would still give something (unless it was hideous) but just like in a restaurant I tip based on the level of service provided.

I tip the same as I would if it was a regular beauty maintenance appointment (18-20%)

I tipped 20% for the trial, and 20% for day-of.

I tipped her and she seemed a bit surprised. I figured it's just like any other regular beauty appointment.

It is still a service, and you should absolutely still tip her.

I tipped every time a person touched my face or hair or literally any part of my body for pampering.

If the vendor did what you asked, you should pay them. If they exceeded expectations, you should tip them. This entitled tip culture is not my jam and I'm not for the shits.

I get it, but I don't *like* it. I'm paying and tipping for a service that I don't know is good. It's done in their space, under their lights. What if I get out into natural sunlight and it looks awful? What if an hour later it starts melting off my face? I've never had makeup done before, I admit I don't know or understand any of it. But if I pay *and* tip 20% for a trial that ends up badly later, I'm not gonna be happy when I have to pay for another trial with another tip!
