Tip?? Hair and makeup

Allison, on March 20, 2022 at 12:14 PM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 7
I’m paying $460 for hair and makeup- in salon on my wedding day…. No trial just going to the salon and having them do it on my wedding day - then headed to the venue….. should I be expected to tip on top of those prices as well? I just feel like that’s enough! But what is the normal protocol?

Normal protocol is to tip your hair stylist and make up artist; especially if it is done in-salon. Just think of it as any other service you would have done there.

Mine has a 15% gratuity included in the contract. But at a salon, they probably don't have that added automatically, so definitely tip before you leave.

You would tip if you go for a regular haircut, no? At least you should be. So yeah, tip

Only tip if they go above and beyond the call of duty.

That's a lot! I hope that includes extensions and lashes. Try to get a feel for if the people doing your hair and makeup are the owners of the salon. If that's the case, you don't have to tip. I would also ask if tip is included.

I think you *should* tip, especially if it's your regular salon. It's customary to tip 15-20% of the service fee (the base price not including any add-ons like lashes). But that is quite high so I think it's partially your call. Typically when it comes to tipping they say you don't have to tip a vendor that owns the business, so if your stylist is the owner maybe you don't have to.
