Tipping florist and baker?

Alexandra, on September 20, 2017 at 3:24 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 14

I'm going over the last minute details and putting together my tips for my DOC to handout on the wedding day. Should I tip my baker and florist? They're independent businesses (so not through the venue) and they are already charging delivery fees. What would you do? And if I should tip, what would the appropriate amount be? My cake is $1200 and my florist is $3200. Thank you!!

I did not plan on tipping either. I am just tipping my DJ, photographer and officiant.

Typically if they are independent, you don't have to tip. But if you feel they went above and beyond what you asked for, I certainly would!

I plan on sending a thank you card with a check for my florist and baker because although I won't see them at the wedding, their efforts were certainly appreciated on my end!

I think there was a Knot article on this, if I find it again i'll post the link. If I remember right it's like a 20$ tip suggested for those two (baker and florist). I'm planning to give a 50$ tip to DJ and photographer, officiants tip is like $100 because he doesn't get paid for wedding the church does, and doing 20$ for the baker and florist.

I think when it comes to wedding independent vendors you don't have an expected 20% like most other things. The only things I'm tipping a percentage for is my bartender, caterer, and hair stylist. Just found the link, Hope this helps! https://www.theknot.com/content/wedding-vendor-tipping-cheat-sheet

I used to work at a bakery and did cakes for events. Tips, while always appreciated, are by no means expected or required.

I also used to work at a greenhouse that had a large floral department. Oftentimes people did tip the florist who did their arrangement, but again, not required and not expected.

However, do leave a glowing review wherever you can if you liked what you got. That's largely how these folks do business, so those are definitely appreciated!

I would definitely at least tip the person who delivered the flowers and the cake. I think if they provided you a service and you were pleased with the their work, sending a thank you card and small tip would be considerate.

We tipped the people who delivered our cake and flowers, but that was it.

I dont plan on tipping. All of my vendors are independent. I feel like if you're paying for a cake and delivery, you're paying for a good not a service. To me its like tipping a waitress, but not tipping a fast food worker. You're solely getting a good. Is that absurd?

I'm not tipping my florist or baker, just the people working my wedding.

I tipped both. I considered them providing both goods and services and I was really pleased with my cake setup and my floral arrangements. Both delivered on time and made sure everything was perfect, and I felt like both deserved a tip.

In my situation I will probably tip the baker because the cake comes with our venue so this person making our cake is charging our venue a flat rate but she is meeting with us more than once to taste and then design our cake. I feel like it would be fair to tip her. I'm getting my photographer a gift for he and his wife to go out to dinner but they are friends (and professionals) and also attending as guests. I'm

not using a florist so I can't say for that.

I didn't tip either (baker was included in the venue so i assumed they have a deal already), for all other vendors that are independently owned, we tipped extra helpers and are planning on sending thank you with a a gift card tip (to Starbucks/Dunkin, where ever we most commonly met with them). I also have referred them business which is awesome so I think the small gift card should be enough as well.
