My hair alone is going to cost me $450 without travel fees for the artist. Am I supposed to tip?

I live in the Bay Area (CA) and my daughter's stylist charged $75 hour (no travel fees although she lives an hour away) and it included a trial. I can't imagine what justifies $450!

Coming from a hairstylist- yes you absolutely should tip! Your hair dressers should be tipped just like your waitresses- 15-20%... I’m not sure what exactly you are having done- but $450 is very expensive! Have you shopped around and compared prices??

Yes I have. I’m in NY and this is about the average price for the well known artists in my area.

Lord! I couldn't image paying $450 for hair!

That being said, tips are necessary. I'd say at least 15%. Alternatively, you could tip 10% cash in combination with some donuts and coffee, chocolates, or a mini bottle of champagne!
