Tipping Make Up and Hair

For my trial and my day-of look, I had/will have a hair stylist and a make-up artist. Each were individually tipped 15% for the trial and will be tipped 15%-20% for the day of. Since they are each providing a different service, they each deserve their own tip.

Yes, tip each separately.

I think you tip them 15-20% of the work they actually did. You don’t tip a makeup artist for the entire bill, because then you’d also be tipping them for the work the hairstylist did. Which doesn’t make any sense.


Let’s say one hairstylist does hair for two bridesmaids and the other does your hair and one bridesmaid hair. Then I’d tip the first one for 15-20% of the cost of two bridesmaids’ hair, and the second for the cost of your hair plus one bridesmaid hair.
Hopefully that makes sense. Ultimately this works out to everyone more or less sharing 15-20% of the total bill, which is fine. Otherwise your tipping each person for work they didn’t do.
