Tipping vendors

Lexi, on June 14, 2019 at 9:36 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 6

What amount are you tipping vendors? What if they run their own business, do you still tip? For those of you that already paid your vendors everything, how are you planning on tipping them? At the wedding? Later on?

If they have their own business you do not have to tip because they are getting the full amount you are paying them. We are in a weird situation where all of our vendors, except the caterer, owns their own business. We are planning on sending the owner of the venue a thank you card in the mail with a wedding picture, it is our DJs birthday so we are going to give him a thank you card/bday card with a gift certificate and a little cake or cupcakes, we feel weird not giving anything to our photographers so we are going to give them a thank you card and probably $100. We are not tipping our caterer because it is included in the bill. We will however send them a thank you card in the mail.

I think it depends on how much you can afford. I've seen a lot of people say they do $100 tips for vendors and at the end of the night if they did an amazing job they get the whole amount or take a little bit or take the whole tip away depending on how their service was.

I've never heard of the own your own business vendors not getting a tip! Sounds rude to me.
Ill have to see where my budget lands but $100 a vendor seems like a good amount

Most of my vendors owners their own business but I got a card for each of them and put a tip inside for each of them. The amounts were different depending on the service they provided for us. In addition we tipped the resort staff that served us for the reception and the bartender that took care of our group all night. I have to say that tipping for a wedding isn’t cheap. Make sure you budget for that.

We're tipping two vendors: our photographer and DJ. Both own their own businesses/equipment and will be working with us all night. Right now we're considering 10% of their services.

For our catering staff we're considering $50 per server/bartender but that's going to depend on how many we get and how much we can afford.
