Tipping/gratuity

Tara , on August 22, 2021 at 4:15 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 3

Hello! Wondering what the wedding wire hive thinks...

Our venue provides a bartender for a $300 fee. I always tip 20%, but what do I tip off of? The $300 fee? The price of the alcohol? Or do you tip them for the amount of guests that will be drinking?

Any suggestions/advice is appreciated! Thank you!

As a guest I always tip the bartender myself. I would tip 20% of the bartenders rate.

It’s the couple’s responsibility to tip the bartender and other vendors. It is not your guests’ responsibility.

Tip them based on them going above and beyond the call of duty only as you feel is appropriate. Don’t tip anyone for bad service, no shows or just showing up to do their job. You also don’t tip at the wedding because you are not in the right frame of mind to objectively assess their quality of work.

Verify your venue contract does not already include Service & Gratuity fees, if they do then no additional tip is needed, you are already paying it! If there is nothing listed on your invoice then 20% of the charge.
