Tips and tricks to printing on A7 envelopes

Kathleen, on June 1, 2017 at 8:26 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 10

Long story short, I was going to hire a calligrapher to address our invitations but that plan went out the window for various reasons.

I've seen some people print addresses directly onto their envelopes and they look gorgeous. I already have the invitations/envelopes being mailed to me, so having a company print them for me may not be an option at this point. Anyone have any tips and tricks for printing them yourself successfully? I'd really like to avoid using labels. Are there any particular printers that work better than others?

Thanks in advance!

I set up a word document the size of the envelope with the flap unfolded (they weren't going through right with it folded) and put a text box where I wanted the address. I had one upside down ( for their address) and the other right side up for the return address in the flap. This was just how it worked out with how my printer prints. I did a couple test runs using the same envelope and seeing where the text moved to so I wouldn't accidentally waste multiple envelopes

@Blair thanks! What type of printer do you have? We're looking to get a new one anyway, so I want to make sure I get one that will print decently on my envelopes.

I actually ended up doing mine at work because the printer has an envelope setting which made it a lot easier. I wish you luck! It really can be a pain. My best advice is to use the same envelope for testing until you get it exactly the way you want.

The hardest part for me was picking the fonts lol. If you made a guest list through wedding wire you can download the list into excel and save the document in excel and then do a mail merge in word. I can't help you with that much since it took me a long time to get it perfect lol. Then I made sure my settings were right for the size of envelope. I ended up going through 200 envelopes and resizing the names before printing

I agree! Word has an envelope option. You just have to decide on the fonts and colors.

Print on a piece of paper measured and cut to the same size as the envelopes.

I tried on my HP printer but it wouldn't work because it had too many error messages about the size, even though it was an option. I went with labels for my STD's.

I have an Epson XP something or other and love it. I did all my invites! Not for the faint of heart but I couldn't find ANYTHING just right. Took a few different ideas and made my own. Smiley smile I digress.... def print a few samples with paper measured first.
