Tips for diy floral centerpieces (bulk from Sam's Club)

Shelly, on September 23, 2019 at 3:30 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 1 23

I didn’t know flowers were crazy expensive and I’m not looking to spend nearly $1,000! Maybe $200-300. I’ve seen on the boards some arrangements done themselves, I’m somewhat creative and I’m looking for something simple. I love flowers with a lot of greenery! Even fake ones are pricey and it looks like bulk flowers would be a bit cheaper and nicer. Questions for those that have done it:

1. How difficult was it?

2. How did you do a trial run? Were you able to purchase a few and practice that wasn’t bulk?

3. How soon did you prepare them before the wedding and store them?

I want to do something like this. Seems simple, lots of green and some flowers.

Check Amazon! I bought all of my bouquets, corsages and boutonnieres for less than $200 off of Amazon. I do plan on buying a few more to spruce up my own bouquet as well as possible centerpieces, but that shouldn't cost anywhere near what a florist would have!

Look for flower markets and wholesale flower shops in your area. I found one that let's us buy at florist cost so we save tons. Other people recommend fifty flowers online

Real or fake flowers? I thought about doing fake off Etsy but it seems like a lot of people on forums were saying you can tell they’re fake and don’t look good in person Smiley sad not sure how true that is but I think as long as it looks nice and good in photos. I don’t think anyone really cares if it’s real or not, plus the fake is just as much as the real DIY.

I agree with PP's. Look on amazon and markets. Do you want real flowers or fake?

I did sola wood flower bouquets and I love them! They were surprisingly very easy to put together I worked on them all summer till they were perfect and I spent less than $300 and that was for:

    Bridal Bouquet

    5 Bridesmaids

    9 Boutonnieres

    2 corsages

    Plus 11 centerpieces

This price also included all my greenery filler and tools to help put everything together (wires, floral tape and wire cutters)

They're fake. No one is going to be looking that closely at the flowers to begin with, but I don't think they look super artificial. This is my bouquet and the only thing I think that looks noticeably fake are the little green plastic pieces that I'm going to take off anyways.

Real flowers in my opinion is just such a waste of money for something that's going to die a few days later lol, but everyone has their own save/splurges!

I ordered some from WISH and they were actually nice. Just what I expected them to be. Also try Amazon.

Thanks girl! I had so much fun making these I actually want to put them in my etsy shop! I looked on etsy and people were asking outrageous amounts for the bouquets ( a bouquet the size of mine that I made cost upwards of $150) I made mine for probably $45 and its about 18" circumference.

Are you looking for real or fake flowers?

I am planning to order a DIY "kit" online. A company like Flower Moxie, The Bouqs Co., and there are a few others. They ship you real flowers and often have "recipes", set-by-step instructions, videos, and consultation to help you.

Oh wow. Well you do amazing work so maybe its something you could think about and just charge a reasonable price. That's me speaking as a small business owner myself. Smiley smile

Yeah thats how I would do it. Way cheaper than the rates I was seeing. I already have a few etsy shops so its nothing new to me, a lot of my work is done via word of mouth which is nice too but i thought about adding them to my shop. My biggest concern is how they will ship... I figured I'd wait till after the wedding and see how mine transport up to TN from FL and decided if its something I want to add in my shop or not. Lol thanks!

Lol you’re right, fake flowers won’t be so bad. I’m sure the guest care more about the vibe, food and drinks than a centerpiece of flowers if it’s fake or not.

Okay so I'm very much in the same boat as you. My max budget was $300 and I wanted real flowers.

Sam's IS more affordable, but their pre-made arrangements are like $400 minimum for just wedding party arrangements. You can also go through some retailers like Bouqs/Flower Moxie/50 Flowers but again they have an up-charge.

So after HOURS of research what I ended up doing was coming up with a design on my own and ordering all florals through a local wholesaler. I also kept my centerpieces very simple (bud vases) to make things easier/cheaper. My design is inspired by one of Flower Moxie's packages (they're really great about giving a detailed breakdown for flower quantities & have lots of DIY tutorials).

In the end I will be getting all wedding party arrangements, bridal bouquet, centerpieces, ceremony arrangements, and some supplies for under $200.

Nope! But I think I could do it since most of my flowers could be found at a local grocery store (roses, stock flower, greenery, etc.)

I plan to just wing it, and honestly I'm not very worried (I'm usually VERY type A about this stuff).

The fact is, I've done so much research that I know what I want and am a fairly crafty person so I feel confident in my ability to do this. I will also have the help of some family and friends.

If your color scheme is anything like the picture you posted, then I would be happy to share my design plans and breakdown with you! We're doing burgundy, blush, and gold.

Oh yes! I was thinking of those colors if we end up having to choose a summer date! Regardless, I think it could work for fall as well. Yes, please! Smiley smile!!!
