Tips for Eloping/super Small Weddings?

Prisonmike, on September 5, 2018 at 1:51 PM Posted in Planning 0 13

Our wedding is sometime in October, so its getting close, and I was wondering if anyone has any tips for small weddings/elopements.

Should we just get married at the Courthouse, or get an officiant and get married in somewhere with a pretty view for pictures?

When we order a cake, should I pick it up the day before or the day of? How do I store it?

I accept any and all advice/tips Smiley smile

Hey there! Are you eloping with just your FH or a few family members and friends too? It’s totally up to you whether you get married at the courthouse or somewhere else. I’ve seen some beautiful courthouses- San Fran! 😍 The cool thing about small weddings is that you have a bit more flexibility and options! You can totally do something creative. Follow the elopement hashtags on IG and you’ll be amazed!

We were just married in a very small wedding with just 6 guests on the Oregon Coast. For us, it was important that we had an Epic view and our VIP’s in attendance. Such a small group gave us the flexibilty to hike up a sand dune and have our ceremony on the top of the beach cliffs! We took everyone out to a semi-private dinner at a restaurant after and arranged for a cake through the restaurant. It was perfect for us and we were able to prioritize what was important to us and what wasn’t to make the perfect day! Attaching a few pics from our day. Feel free to ask me any questions!

That is amazing! It is just going to be us and my father. I am in Northern Kentucky, and we do have a few very pretty courthouses, I am just worried about the ceremony being too quick/not intimate enough for my taste. I am trying not to 'plan' anything, because I get easily stressed which is why we cancelled our first wedding :p

I want to get a small cake for us after the wedding, and we do plan on going to a nice restaurant afterwards. I have been searching pinterest and instagram for NKY elopement spots, we definitely don't have anything like that, but i'd love to find something with a beautiful backgroundscape if I can!

We hired an officiant off of Simply Eloped and we are getting married in a scenic area. They take care of the photography too. We are then having a small dinner at a restaurant, the bakery is delivering the cake the day of. If you decide to pick up your cake, it depends on the type of frosting. Buttercream needs to be refrigerated, but the bakery can you tell you whats best. It's all up to you on what you want to spend and how much you want to do. You can have someone take pictures at a courthouse, and there are some beautiful courthouses around the US,

I would say if you’re worried about the contents of the ceremony, I’d suggest getting an officiant and choosing somewhere (anywhere!) to do the ceremony rather than doing a courthouse wedding. I think at the courthouse the ceremony contents tend to be very standard whereas with an officiant you can work together to customize. We chose a reading for the ceremony and also to read letters to each other during the ceremony to make it a little more intimate.

I looked quickly and found the Red River Gorge which looks gorgeous! Is this anywhere near you?

If you're in Cincinnati/ NKY I would do it on the steps of that one church in Mt. Adams that has the view of the whole city from it? Do it on a Saturday night and the church should be closed anyway?

OMG with the fall leaves that would be an amazing backdrop!!

Also- Have you looked at a Popup Weddings?

I hear you! Preach! I'm the same way. We were planning a big wedding and I decided to nix it. I just couldn't with the whole thing. Even though I'm the last of 7 children to get married, you'd think I'd have mastered it, but no. This time, my niece, is my partner in crime and not gonna let me nix it and keeping me focused on a small wedding. She's been so amazing at doing most of the leg work for me in finding venues that offer several services and packages and I just have to go look and see and if I feel anxiety creeping in, I just give her a call and she talks me down off the ledge. How did my siblings do all this?!?
