Tips on cutting back on sweets

I have a major sweet tooth. I love my sweets and I crave them every night. Any tips on how to cut back on eating sweets? I do already eat sugar free jell-o and pudding, but sometimes, more like every night, I want some m&ms or chocolate. I workout 5 days a week, but still, I need to break this...

This happens to me too, every night! What I do is portion control it, I buy a bag of M&Ms or kisses and make a few little pre-portioned bags, maybe 3-4 kisses or a small handful of M&Ms. It helps with the craving without going out of control.

Keeping it out of the house doesn't work for me because when the craving hits I just drive the 2 minutes to wawa and end up eating a lot more than I would have.

I've heard about a 5 minute "rule," that most cravings go away after 5 minutes or so. I've tried to wait 5 minutes, do something else, and if after 5 minutes I still want the sweets or whatever the craving is, I let myself have it. If after 5 minutes I forgot about it, then great! Usually, I do forget about it!

I would eat a healthier sweet when you get a craving, like fruit or honey on toast. That way you can satisfy the craving but it be somewhat healthy for you.

Once you stop eating sweets, your body won't crave it. It'll suck but just stop eating it. Don't have any in the house and in a few days, you'll be over it.

David's Tea and Teavana both make a lot of dessert flavored teas. Maybe those would do the trick for you! Usually that's enough for me when I have a craving for something sweet. I'm also a huge sugar addict.

I allow myself to have a small sweet treat every day, mostly sticking to dark chocolate. I have a very "I want what I can't have" mentality when it comes to food. The more I tell myself I can't have it, the more I crave it.

I also second the distraction method. On nights where FH and I play video or board games together I find I think a lot less about snacking and wanting dessert.

Dark chocolate, frozen grapes, half of a granola bar or protein bar with dark chocolate?

I usually get my chocolate fix out of a protein shake or smoothie. The protein powder I use is sugar free, but it tastes SO good, and that usually suffices me.

If it's snack-things you're looking for, I say stick to fruit. Sometimes if I don't have frozen grapes, I usually have some kind of frozen fruit, like the ones used for smoothies. so sometimes i'll defrost some of those, and if I need it a little sweeter i'll add just a little bit of honey.

Just do not buy them, it is so much less tempting... will you really want to leave the house for candy?

Look on pinterest for healthy dessert options.

I know what helped me was drinking a ton of water.

Slowly reduce the amount you eat in a week, instead of every day try every other day, then make it every two days , once a week. drink lots and lots of water and get them out of the house so you aren't tempted

Definitely JUST DON'T BUY IT. We don't keep sweets, candies, cookies, etc. in the house, we just don't. To satisfy your chocolate craving try fat-free chocolate pudding, maybe?

FRUIT FRUIT FRUIT!! Kiwis, strawberries, pineapple, pears, raspberries, are all very sweet and won't add to your waistline. Just try not to eat too close to bedtime.
