First come up with a vision for how you want your wedding to look, pick a date, decide on budget, and use the checklist on Wedding Wire as your guide. If you're really lost consider hiring a planner. Brides.com, Pinterest, Vogue Weddings, this website, etc. are all great places to find inspiration.

I found Jamie Wolfer’s videos on YouTube to be extremely helpful when I was in your position. Watching the videos obviously doesn’t mean there won’t be hard work involved in planning, but it really helped me get into the “planning mindset” when I had no clue where to start.

I give everyone the same advice (its the advice my mother, a florist, has given to every bride she has ever worked with or known).

    Use. Seasonal. Flowers.

This will save you sometimes thousands of dollars and a lot of heartache. Look at what flowers are going to be in season for your wedding date (you've chosen June, so you'll have lots of options) and try and pick your color scheme from there. Picking flowers that are not in season can cost so much money. You'll save yourself so many headaches by going with what is in season. If you want a specific flower (say, Burgundy mums) take a look at when they are in season and see if a date works around that instead of trying to make the flowers work for your date. It was literally the only thing my mother made me promise about my wedding (and did this 10 years ago when a wedding wasn't even close to being in the picture after my sister in law did not heed her advice and picked light purple and light green orchids for her October wedding).

Other than that - HAVE FUN. It's supposed to be FUN! And always remember, at the end of the day you get to marry the person you love most in the world, the day is great and exciting and fun, but its everything after that matters.

I bought a planner book and it helped a lot! Not everyone wants to pay for a book/binder but I looked through a couple free options before deciding to buy one that I liked ("The Budget-Savvy Wedding Planner & Organizer: Checklists, Worksheets, and Essential Tools to Plan the Perfect Wedding on a Small Budget" by Jessica Bishop).

As for general advice, I would say start broad with your plans and then narrow your focus. For example, start by deciding on an overall style before you pick specific elements like tablecloths or chairs. I found that creating idea boards on Pinterest was a great way to see how certain elements looked next to one another and also to keep track of specific items I was deciding between (like veils and shoes).

Using in-season florals and being open to non-traditional options can greatly reduce your costs and also help you enjoy your wedding and make it what you want. I got married on a Tuesday and so many more venues and vendors were available than if I had chosen a Friday or Saturday.

I would also say that being on the same page with your future spouse about your wedding vision is really important to get down before early! You have to stick together and support eachother as you deal with the wedding stress and potentially sticky situations with friends and family.

And lastly, be very careful about accepting money from your family to help pay for things! It depends on your relationship obviously, but there are lots of stories where the family that pays then holds that over the heads of the couple getting married and either invite guests they didn't want or refuse to pay if they don't get their way on certain decissions.

Start by writing down who you want to attend, then consider your budget. Look at your local market and see whether you budget is doable with your guest list. Go from there.

Also, WeddingWire actually has a great checklist function that I've been using this whole time. Good luck!
