Tips or tricks?

Kerin, on June 12, 2020 at 8:23 PM Posted in Hair and Makeup 1 19
So I had posted earlier this week about having my trial run for hair and makeup in September for my engagement photos, but the salon that I'm booked with for the wedding is completely booked in September and October, meaning I have to wait for my trial run. Any tips or tricks for a simple hairstyle and makeup for the engagement shoot? I have, no joke, zero skill in this stuff and have to do it myself...

I'm more worried about hair, specifically how to add volume at the top for maybe a half up look...I have a straightening iron, 2 different size curling irons, and a curling brush.
I've gotten some youtube videos under my belt and played with makeup a little lately, still working on it but less nervous about that part.

I've spent crazy amounts of time on Youtube to learn makeup and hair tricks. Lol.

How long is your hair? I have very flat straight hair but get really good volume that lasts by using a 3 barrel hair waver and doing a side part. Traditional curls fall out really fast for me, so I think the different direction of the curl made with a waver just works.

Might look too poofy if your hair is shoulder length or shorter.

Thanks, Breann! Mine is a few inches longer than shoulder length. I'm usually a wash it, use a pick to remove tangles and go kinda girl, but I want to look more "put together" for pictures lol

LOL that is exactly my hair routine! I feel ya!

I'm super low maintenance so I'm kind of hoping the wedding day will be this dramatic makeover of sorts. Gotta make him cry somehow!

Go to a makeup counter at a department store or a MAC store.

Salons in Ohio are open. They are all appointment only and you have to call for them to escort you in. No walk in appointments.

You could go to Sephora or UltaAnd they will usually do on the spot make up. Ulta even has a hair salon in there too. They also do fake lashes. I’d say this is your best way to go if you’re in a jam and you can’t do it yourself

So one of my favorite methods for curls and volume is the headband curl method. I can’t remember how I found it years ago, but if you google “easy headband curls”, you can pull up several videos. I usually put it up pretty wet and go the whole day and night with it up, and take it down the next morning. Then my curls usually last for 2 days (if I don’t go running).

I have found that dry shampoo is my best friend for keeping my hair hold a curl. My hair is terrible about holding curls or volume, but dry shampoo not just on the roots, but throughout gives it a good texture and holds the curls much better.
