Tmi... but bikini wax?

Sorry for 2 posts in one day. But since there's lots of ladies on this app I thought I'd ask. I want to get a bikini wax before my wedding for my FH. He likes the hedge bare, and to be honest my shaving skills suck. Have any of you ladies had one done? Is it worth it? Should I do it a few days...

Totally worth it! I have a full Brazilian done every 4 weeks or so. I reccomened going 4-6wks before to make sure you dont have a bad reaction & then go again in the days before the wedding

I go every month... also to European Wax center. The wax they use clings to the hair, not your skin so it's not as painful... don't get me wrong it is uncomfortable but totally worth it. My hair takes about a week or so to grow back and comes back thinner and softer. IMO getting a Brazilian is less painful than getting my eyebrows threaded.

I also agree that you should go once or twice before your wedding. From what I've heard, you NEVER want to try something new just before your wedding.

    Good luck!!

Go the week after your period. Do not go the week before or during, it will hurt way worse!

European wax center is terrific, totally recommend either ibuprofen or a shot before.

Not what you completely asked, but I just wrapped up laser hair removal for my bikini and underarms and swear by it. If you can find a reputable salon on groupon and are looking for a permanent fix, definitely the way to go. Not a quick fix/treatment schedule though. Mine took six treatments which is average.

I've gone to European wax center! They're really good. The first wax hurt but after that it wasn't too bad! Like most said you should go a few weeks before and 2-3 days before your wedding!

I don't wax. I don't trust the podunk wax places here, and would never do the upkeep anyway.

Magic Cream, all the way. I can go 2-3 weeks before I need it. I put it on, leave it for 20 minutes (most I know only do 10 though), and scrape off with an old gift card. Boom. Done.

I had my first bikini wax done like six months ago and last month I went with a Brazilian wax. I'd definitely recommend it! It's been almost four weeks and I barely have any hair growing. I have an appointment later next week for a touch up before my wedding.

I would recommend taking some aspirin and avoiding days near your period.

Go a week after your period, take a couple Advil 1/2 hour beforehand and you'll be fine! Brazilian waxes are LIFE!

Brazilians are TOTALLY worth the short lived pain. I've been getting them done for almost 4 years. I also work at a waxing salon (as receptionist).

You need to make sure hair is 1/4 -1/2 inch long. Think grain of rice length. You do not need 1-2 inch length as a PP had mentioned.

I recommend exfoliating the area well before any appointments (as well as daily after), it will hopefully help to not get ingrowns. Which are about the only downside to a wax in my opinion.

Also ask your technician to try hard wax one time, then maybe soft wax the next. See how your skin reacts to both. I personally have had the best experience with after care/regrowth when they use both soft and hard wax in different areas.

Just ask lots of questions, are don't feel weird, they look at all types, shapes and colored lady parts all day, it doesn't phase them, I promise.

I do them all the time. Highly recommend. Make sure they use hard wax though. I would go a couple times to get used to it and so they can get all the hair. Oh! I also go to European Wax Center. Love their exfoliate!

I know everyone is recommending European Wax Center, but for your first time my recommendation is to Yelp like crazy in your area to find the salon, and maybe even the specific aesthetician with the BEST reviews. Some are better with first timers where EWC is more like in and out to get more people through. I was so nervous about it my first time and this eased my fears about the pain and awkwardness of it. After a few times you can go to European Wax Center for better price. It will be painful your first time, don't shave in between, and over the next couple times the pain (and irritation of the area) will lesson significantly. Take ibuprofen like 30-45 minutes before you go. Definitely start now so you know what to expect and your body is more used to it before the wedding. BTW the backside doesn't hurt at all, just a few key strips on the front that are rough, and even then the pain goes away within like 15 seconds.

All good advice. Also, though 1/4" is the general recommendation for waxing I usually say closer to 1/2" for coarser hairs. They're a little more stubborn which is why not all the hair comes out, even at 1/4". And don't tan and wax within 24hrs of each other. Your skin will be more sensitive and more likely to burn.

All the precautions make it sound scary and super painful, but it is so so much nicer than shaving. You stay smoother longer, and I personally don't get as itchy when it grows back.

Hair removing creams seem like a safer bet, but I would worry about it getting in your lady bits. Never tried it, though, so I wouldn't know for sure.

Love Brazilians and definitely recommend them. I do not recommend the EWC, however, even though everyone seems to love it. I went to one because I moved away from my old wax salon and they didn't take their time or make it a relaxing experience for me. It was like a revolving door, in and out experience. But definitely try to get one!

    Dooooo it.

Like everyone else has said, definitely do it at least a couple times before you go for your wedding. You hair must be at least 1/4 inch to a inch or so for them to do it, otherwise they'll tell you to come back. The first time might not get it all, but don't shave at all in between waxes. Hair doesn't grow at the same pace, so you have to naturally get them growing together. Once you've done it a few times and all the hair comes off it's the best! Definitely worth it.

I've always gone to European Wax Centers and had good experiences. But definitely check out Yelp too and read reviews.

For everyone saying don't wax right before your period, I'd heard that advice before. Does the same hold true for people using birth control? Because with some BC, it's not a real period, it's withdrawal bleeding. Some waxing places don't care if you're on your period, but some do (for cleanliness/hygiene purposes).

Waxing is the best thing ever! Make sure you go a few months before your wedding for a trial and see how your skin reacts. Also make sure you trim the hair to 1/4 inch. It may be a bit painful but if you continue with waxing it becomes painless. Also make sure you don't go into a hot tub after you wax it may irritate your skin. European Wax Center is good and if you've never been there before you can get a free bikini line wax. I suggest you do this first to see how you like it.
