To Air Condition... or not to Air Condition

Grace , on May 21, 2019 at 10:32 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 20
Okay so my wedding is on June 15th 2019 at an 18th century mansion in Nashville Tennessee. The ceremony is in a very shaded garden, with cocktail hour inside the parlor (with AC). The reception is in an open-air pavilion no ac, but if you choose you can have the sides put down and have air conditioner (for $1,200).

I LOVE the way the venue looks with all of the sides drawn way more than when they’re down, but you can’t have them drawn if you choose AC, obviously. They do have plenty of fans set up and can put up misters if you want them to as well.

I don’t want my guests to be miserable! But I don’t want to spend all of this money and it not look nice. HELP!

included a picture that shows each option (looks wise) Also want to note that the reception would start at 7pm and it’s on the east side of the mansion so the sun would be setting on the opposite end.

I would go with AC. You're having a summer wedding in the south. It's going to be hot and humid regardless of time of day. And people will just get hotter as they dance.

Personally, I would choose AC. I think both way's you showed pictured looks nice. Which is more important to you: Guest comfort or Open Siding? I wouldn't want my guests hot and miserable, because then no one would be having a good time.

I think you should be fine with no AC. My venue is 130 years old and also does not have AC granted my wedding is early June in MN so it will only be about 60s or so. But honestly i think you'll be ok and people will enjoy the feeling of being "outdoors" without actually being outside.

I think it looks beautiful both ways! I would talk to the venue and see when the decision has to be made by. If it was me I would wait as long as I could and see how the weather is going to be and then decided from there. I'm sure you don't want to do this because you are paying $1,000 for the AC but maybe have the AC running until the sun goes down then open everything up and turn the AC off so you can have both.

Go with AC!!! Especially in the middle of June and if you are having the ceremony in the outdoor garden! Guests will be SO much more comfortable and so will you and your bridal party! Trust me, I have been in a wedding in the dead heat of July in a barn where even with the windows open and large fans going, it was absolutely not enough. We would have SO appreciated AC in the middle of the summer heat. It was so bad me and the other bridesmaids were sweating through our dresses and it was leaving dark spots on the small of our backs. It even showed up in the pictures. Smiley atonished

I would go with AC too. The one thing I can't stand at a wedding is being hot and miserable. Even at my cousin's wedding in Chicago in September (at night) it was still miserably warm without AC, especially with everyone dancing and jumping around. I think the venue still looks fantastic closed up BTW.

If the bugs are bad there, wouldn’t the sides down help with that too? Then sides down for sure.

Can you change your mind last minute and opt to add the AC if it’s forecasted to be a very hot day? To me this would all depend on temperatures. If it was in the 70s I’d roll ‘em up. Into the 80s and AC all the way.

Btw I do not recommend misters no matter the weather, in my experience people who are all dolled up for a wedding would prefer not to be misted !

Yes we can change our mind last minute, but you’re still out the $1,200 if you decide not to use it :/

Just in the next week, the forecast for that area is in the mid-90s. AC ALL THE WAY!

Your guests won't remember that beautiful view - what they will remember is if they were sweating their butts off. I would really consider AC. Plus it looks gorgeous either way.

Is there an option to open up one wall if it cools down to the high 60s in the evening?

Go with the AC. The venue is lovely both ways and your guests will very much appreciate not sweating all night. The weather is so unpredictable in the south (It's still just May and we're forecasted to be in the 100s here in Atlanta this week!) and it's better to be safe than sorry.

I vote for A.C. and the sides down mostly because of the date and location. I also would prefer sides down in the event of rain. I wouldn’t want sideways rain messing up that beautiful space

June in Nashville has to be hotter than it is June in PA. Jeez it's been 80 degrees already this week here. I would say you have to go with AC no doubt. I think it looks stunning tented! People will still be able to go outside the tent and enjoy the weather just like a regular indoor location!

AC, no question. Summer wedding in the south will be miserable. I was at an outdoor wedding and reception last weekend in Texas and every single guest was miserable and sweating through their fancy clothes. Not a great look.

And for what it's worth I actually like the look of the "closed" venue better than open.

**Date Twins Smiley laugh!!!** but anyways lol, I think if you have the extra money do it because you don't want people getting overheated, while they're dancing and drinking, you want them to be comfortable. I still think it will look beautiful even with the sides down it just a beautiful venue period Smiley smile

I think either setup is beautiful but as a guest, I’d prefer to be comfortable. I’ve been to weddings where there wasn’t AC in the summer and it was pretty rough. One it was actually more comfortable outside the venue so several of us spent most of the night hanging out there.

I've been in Nashville in the summer and honestly, it's blazing hot. Ideally, you'd have A/C but I understand about the view and cost. If it turns out be an absolute no go, I would suggest providing hand held fans.
