To all the brides expecting "Aunt Flow" to visit on or around the date of your wedding...

...there IS a solution!!!!!! A few weeks ago I posted a discussion in reference to my period starting on my wedding day. I have the copper IUD {{a/k/a Paragard}} which contains NO hormones and since having it inserted, my periods have become a bit longer and heavier. Having my period on my wedding day would be a nightmare and I was desperate to find a solution. Well, ladies, I called my OB/GYN and she prescribed me a pill that's supposed to delay {{yes, delay, LOL}} my period. It's called Norethindrone and you are supposed to take one pill a day beginning about 5 days before your period is scheduled to start. The more days to take the pill, the longer it will be delayed. But as soon as you stop taking it, your period will start. This is absolutely safe for me to use since my IUD is hormone free. I don't think you can use this pill if you are on any other forms of birth control, but ask your doctor just to be sure. I'm just happy to know there is an option :o}

    I used depo, went off it after one shot because it interacts with my meds.

    Everything looked great as far as not getting af on wedding day but my period a month before the wedding came late, making my next period fall on my wedding date!!! Thankfully it showed up Monday afternoon instead of Sunday night. But that is just my dang luck!

    I never thought of this until just now. Thank you for giving me something new to have nightmares about! Maybe I will go for a Chinese style wedding dress just in case; they have the right idea with bright red! Smiley smile

    Mine usually starts btwn the 16-22 so I chose my wedding day specifically to avoid it. The only thing it may cut into is our honeymoon depending on how many days we decide to be gone for that but we'd be on our way back home by that time anyway so no worries here. Thanks tho Smiley smile

    Although I have PCOS and normally cant get my peroid on my own IF i randomly get it it ALWAYS falls between the 20th-25th(im getting married the 20th!!!) so even though this disease has seriously disturbed my life it doesnt seem to mess up with timing BUT being that PCOS effects my hormones so bad my Endo put me on Birth Control to control my acne for the wedding day so I perpusely started it so that I would get it after I get back from the honey moon ;-)

    I just looked it up online and wanted to give you a heads up that a side effect could be vaginal bleeding or spotting. So just be careful. Smiley smile

    All BC pills can stop your period if you dont take the placebo pills. Ypu just have t find a pill that works well for your body and you should start taking them at least 3 months out from your wedding and the week where you take the placebo pills and have a period just skip them and keep taking the BC. Just remember to take them because the moment you miss a pill your period will come. This is how I avoid my period on vacation

    I was going to say exactly what chuwana L. said. I'm on regular bc pills and I just continue another pack (by skipping the placebos) to avoid my period. It's easy and quite safe. Smiley smile

    @ Chuwana - the whole point of me getting the copper IUD inserted was to avoid taking BC pills. I've been on every kind of BC for the past 14 yrs {{the pill, depo, the patch, nuva ring}} and I wanted to give my body a break from all the chemicals. This particular pill is exactly what I need because it is a no committment pill. I can take it for one week,delay my period and then be done with it, unlike the BC pill which you have to take consistently on a daily basis. I have no desire to start taking the pill again. Hopefully, this info can benefit someone else who may not want to go the BC pill route.

    WHATTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT?!?!?!?!?!?!!?!?!?!? WOW!!!! I scheduled my wedding at the beginning of the month. My period usually comes the 2nd or 3rd week of the month. But, since my IUD, I don't bleed heavily, so it wouldn't be that big of a problem anyway. But this is a GOOD tip!! I will definitely keep it in mind for other events I need to "skip" aunt flow!! LOL!!

    There a a zillion pills I also have been on different pills (seasonique, and a few others whose names I can't remember one was a progesterone only and the other was a low dose combo) and the patch. They all vary in hormones. While a copper IUD doesn't have hormones it has It's own risks. I personally would rather hormones (something my body make naturally and is used to) rather than copper which is a foreign object. For me however and a lot of women hormonal therapy fails because the pill or shot maybe too high a level. Think about how much hormones must be in a patch for it to be absorbed through your skin and make it's way into your bloodstream. Currently I'm not on a pill because I hate BC too but I will ask my doctor about the pill the OP suggested vs the last pill I was on.

    I had the end of September as my date. Then FH said to me "you wanna get married when you have your period?" He keeps better track of it then I do! So I changed it to the 17th and it is not due till the 22nd (my birthday but its the lesser of two evils) My tubes are tied so I am not on any birth control.

    @ Chuwana - Beloved, I'm not trying to start a debate lol I just posted this info for brides like myself and Susan M. who aren't on any form of chemical BC. We can talk all day about the pros and cons of every kind of BC and the risks involved with them all, but it pretty much boils down to what works for you and your body. Thanks for your input :o}

    There aren't alot of herbal ways to postpone ur period, but I found several to make it show up early. Maybe thats an option. My cycle is odd, I will probably try one of these so I can just do it and get it over with.
