To buy online? or not to buy online?

Mahayla, on January 10, 2018 at 12:18 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 38

I have a very strict budget for my wedding (October 5,2018!) and i'm trying everything I can to get stuff for cheap or free! So I have found a few websites that sell extremely cheap wedding dresses (some of the dresses are $200!) like promnova.com, amazon.com, and hebeos.com. I plan on going to a store and trying on similar dresses to see if they look good on me then ordering them from one of the websites I have found. Has anyone ordered from these websites? was it a good experience and can you prove that with pictures? Or is there something else that I can do to save on my dress? I'm not looking for anything high quality as long as the dress looks good and can stay on my body for a few hours I don't care after that. Thank you!

I have never heard of those two websites but I know Amazon can be full of knock offs. I would be very wary of ordering a dress online that was that inexpensive. I would research those sites first. Stores like Macy's have wedding sections and even just white dresses that are usually fair priced.

Why not purchase the dress material online and get it tailored. That seems like a much better option if you're on a budget. you've gotta look sexy and fit in your wedding dress, you know Smiley smile

It probably won't be that much cheaper to have it made. I did this, and while it was probably at least a savings of $1000 or more, this process still cost me about $2500. I recommend going to a dress store to try on dresses so you know what styles look good on you and then check out sites that sell used dresses such as preownedweddingdresses.com or even local thrift stores or consignment stores.

You might try consignment shops and thrift stores. I have seen some nice dresses at my local thrift stores, though sadly not in my size. The sites you mentioned rely on Chinese knockoff dresses and while I have heard people have good luck, the quality varies widely - in that it could turn out completely different than you expect. I've also seen dresses at more reputable sites like Azazie and Cocomelody in the $200 range. You could also consider getting a bridesmaid dress in white or ivory.

Check bridesmaid dresses and formal dresses. In white, ivory or blush, you can't tell some styles from wedding dresses.

    Also check prom dress sites

Definitely wouldn’t trust online. I bought a dress that was from amazon and it definitely wasn’t the best quality. I ended up buying a different dress.

Tjmax online has wedding dresses. The good part is, if you don’t like it I believe you can return in store. Just search Wedding in the search bar.

    I wouldn’t. And this is why: http://www.huffingtonpost.com.au/entry/online-shopping-wedding-dress_n_6555778

I did buy bridesmaid dresses online, but they were under $100 each and if they hadn’t worked out, I could afford to take that hit. As it happened they were fine, it they were also less complex than a wedding dress!

Have you tried looking on websites like ASOS and Modcloth? They often have good, affordable options and very good return policies if you don't love it when it arrives.

I wouldn't buy online unless you can afford to take the hit if it doesn't work out. Just because there's a picture of something doesn't mean that's what you're gonna get.

Check out consignment shops. They'll have cheaper priced dresses and you'll be able to try it on. And then you can make sure the fit, fabric, style, etc is all to your liking.

JJs House is full of horror stories, as are a lot of those sites.
Check out Cocomedley or Azazie both of whom are reputable. Azazie will even let you try on a sample at home- I think wedding dresses are $25, but most of the BM dresses also come in white and ivory I know those are $10 to try on.

David's Bridal is having their $99 dress sale. Modcloth is also a good place to check. I order from them all the time and their return policy is excellent.

What buy a dress? Look at Rent the Runway and then you can wear a designer dress that you won’t be stuck with afterwards. Their bridal packages are great for trying a couple on for fit and style well in advance . I’m going to encourage my BMs (who are choosing their own dresses) to use them!

Depending on what you want, this will not be the route to go.

as a designer myself, even though i don't do bridal, the cost for making a dress like this can shoot up really fast. a friend of mine found a design she loved on etsy from a self-employed designer and she wanted 1100$ for the design custom made, and i paid that for my wedding dress from a big designer with tax. most of the pieces i make myself that are everyday wear are at least 75-200$, and that could be a made-from-scratch tailored jacket or slacks, depending on the details, fittings and fabric.

amazon has some reputable designs, just do your research. i havent heard of the other sites you listed. also, azazie sells bridesmaid dresses mostly, but they do have some bridal designs for a decent price. there are places like Rent the Runway and Vow to be Chic too that let you rent dresses. i would look into these options before looking into having a gown custom made for you, unless you know someone who can give you a dea.

I started looking at David’s Bridal for the $99 sale. There were a few really good options. I ended up falling in love with a dress from a consignment shop. Beautiful dress and amazing my cheap price.

As others have said, I'd try David Bridals $99 dress sale. I would be very wary about ordering a wedding dress online, depending on style and what not, you don't know how it will actually look until it's on. There were many dresses I liked on their website and once I went into the bridal shop, I didn't like certain things about them. If you can return them, maybe go for it. You can also try local consignment shops, you could be lucky and find something your size (or close to). Good luck!
