To Cape or Not to Cape???

Mrs.a, on July 23, 2020 at 8:16 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 30

I’m not a fan of chapel or cathedral veils personally but I do love capes!

Do you think a cape would work with my dress? Or would it be too much?

Personally, I think it might be a bit much with the busy fabric and long sleeves of the dress. That dress is absolutely beautiful, I wouldn’t want to hide it. Let that dress shine!! ✨

I see what you’re saying, I would not want tot are away from the stars on the dress...Would a sheer one look good or with just a hint of sparkle? Or should I just ditch the cape idea entirely?

Also I will be shortening the sleeves either 3/4” length or cap length. The wedding is in May so I definitely don’t want long sleeves.

I think I'd skip the cape. That dress is beautiful the way it is. But I'd definitely try it together before making that final decision.

I still say let the dress shine! LOL But maybe take the dress to a bridal store that carries capes and try it on with one. You’ll never know for sure until you see it all together!

That’s a good point! Maybe I’ll call around to some boutiques first to see if I can try a cape with it.

I think I would skip the cape. Your dress is gorgeous and I would want it to be the star.

Personally I’d skip the cape too. As others have mentioned, it’ll take away from the dress. If you still really want to do a cape, maybe a capelet would work better.

I can see that. And I think for it to work it would have to have short sleeves or be sleeveless in Spring.

I think it would get a bit lost because the dress already has a lot of sparkle and fabric with long sleeves and the train. If you had a sleeveless and/or really low back coverage I think a cape would be more fitting.

Oh just saw this comment you made. If you’re going shorter sleeve I think it is more of a possibility. However, I still think that long cape would go best with a plain dress that otherwise had little to no sparkle or embellishment.

The shorter capelet idea, particularly if a more solid, plain fabric like satin could work really well.

I agree with everyone else that your (beautiful!) dress will not be enhanced by a cape.
