To chair cover, or not to chair cover....

Chris, on February 23, 2015 at 1:33 AM Posted in Style and Décor 0 25

Alright, so I'm trying to figure out if I should dress up the chair in the first picture. To be honest, I do not feel like spending the money on chair covers. I thought I would get them in my wedding package, but I had to choose between the covers or a cake (cake won).

My wedding colors are Royal Blue with Coral as the accent. I am using the table runner in the next picture. I've also included a picture of the reception space.

Will the chairs work without the covers? Should I dress up the plain chair with coral tulle? Or, should I just spend the money on the covers and use royal blue sashes?

IMO you don't need chair covers!

Our venue told us they had x number of wooden folding chairs. We got to the venue to decorate the day before and they were short by 20 of that type of chair. We had to mix and match with another type of chair. There wasn't anytime to dress it up or anything. Nobody noticed the chairs at our reception. I say keep it simple or skip it all together.

I wish my chair option was as nice as yours. I like the look of chair covers and I think the room looks nicer with them, but people are going to be sitting in them and have jackets and purses hanging off the backs. I don't think you will even notice with a full room of people whether they are covered or not. My chair option is folding black plastic chairs with the fake whicker look to them. Sigh, they are nice and comfy but just all wrong for a wedding.

    Thanks, ladies.

A part of me likes the look of the chair covers, but as Sarah noted, I'm not sure if that's a detail people will really focus on. And since the chairs are so close to my color, I'll dress with tulle or leave them bare. I am leaning towards the tulle.

Well, I can now sell back the chair sashes I got from CL last year!

I think they look fine as is. As brides, of course we ponder these things. However, your guests honestly won't care. I can't remember any wedding I've been to where I thought "hmm, they should've covered these chairs! Horrible!". Heck I can't even remember whether there were colored tablecloths or not. I think you made the right choice going with the cake. Save your money and stick with cover-less.

I think it's fine without chair covers. The guest won't even notice it. Save the money for something else.

Leave them as is. When asked what I liked or remembered about a wedding, what my butt sat on doesn't come to mind. (unless it is something stupid

I think without the covers would be fine, especially since they match your colouring.

You don't need them. They're expensive, uncomfortable, and almost never look as nice as that photo.

Skip the covers. I don't like the look of chair covers and I hate sitting on them. People won't notice the chairs. They will look fine especially since they are close to your colors.

I'm not a fan of chair covers, ever. And your chairs are great, anyway! To me, they look much better than chair covers. Like Celia said, they almost never look as good as that picture, and generally remind me of a pillowcase over a chair...especially once people start sitting on them. Seriously, I'd rather see a bare Samsonite folding chair than a chair cover.

Hey, you got lucky! Royal blue is a color in your wedding. Those chairs will look deliberate. I wouldn't have covered them even if they were emerald green. Chair covers call attention to chairs, and the cover says, "Ugly chair alert". As long as your guests can find a chair, they're fine with whatever color it is. Don't decorate them with ribbons, tulle, or whatever pinterest is telling you is a must. That will call attention to them. Just leave them as they are. I am incredibly detail oriented. If I were asked about the last five weddings I attended, I could give you the color of the BM dresses, what types of bouquets and centerpieces were there, what color the table linens were, and what the menu was. What I can't tell you is what kind of chair I sat in. As long as it didn't wobble, I couldn't have cared less.

I think your chairs are fine! My reception venue comes with baby poo brown metal folding chairs... I'm buying chair covers for mine. In my venue I think they would totally stand out. Everyone has their pet peeves, and I haven't been too picky on much - but my chairs are hideous...

I would just leave the chairs. Honestly, I've never seen a covered/sashes chair that didn't look like a tacky 80s pr dress. I just don't like them haha

We actually did chair covers and I loved it! Personally I felt the room looked complete. Also my chairs were an office blue and my wedding was white and plum so it needed to be covered lol
