To charger plate or not?

FutureMrsAlberti, on March 25, 2016 at 2:01 AM Posted in Style and Décor 0 23

So I have a question...

I absolutely love the look of decorating our tables with charger plates and when I asked for them I didn't think much of price obviously I knew they would cost but I certainly did not think that 130 charger plates would cost a little over $1,100.00 !!!!! When my FH saw that he of course immediately said get rid of them, then he mentioned purchasing them. If we buy them they would be between $400 - $500 only issue is what the heck will I do with them after?!

You can sell them on a local resale site or the Ww bride to bride site. Especially if it's a popular color, it will sell fast

I would vote not. It's one of those things that won't be missed if it's not there.

For $1100... no way. Our venue rents gold or silver chargers for $1 per plate, and you can often find brides reselling their used chargers for 1 or 2 bucks a plate. Seriously noooo need to spend that much.

Woah! FH likes the look of chargers as well. We searched online for places to rent them, and will also ask if the venue has a company which they rent from. During our online search for rentals, they ranged from $1-3 depending on design, so I have some sticker shock to the price which you were quoted.

$1100??? Our rental company charges $1 per charger! So we expect to pay around $150. Totally worth it for the pop of color, IMO.

I'm using them just for centerpieces and got them from Michaels when they were 40% off. $1100 sounds nuts!

Check the WW Bride 2 Bride fb site, Michael's and the dollar store. You can probably find them even cheaper. Or just skip them. You will easily be able to resell if you choose to buy them.

Hi FutureMrsAlberti Smiley smile I had the exact same dilemma. We have decided to go without. Yes it's nice but it's either super expensive or your left with all these chargers to try and sell.

The ones I liked initially were $6.95/pp but they had some that were less extravagant and still pretty for $1.50/pp. Went with that option although it did feel like I was settling a bit. Truth is they are noticed for a second and then fall into the background. But I wanted them anyway lol.

That seems excessive for rentals. Have you shopped around to different rental places to compare? I totally agree that they really make the tables look great...I HAD to have them, much to DH's dismay, lol, but we were able to rent ours for $4 per charger...they were clear glass with the silver beading around the edges pictured below. If you decide to get chargers, really I'd recommend renting over buying. When thinking about the cost involved, remember the inconvenience of trying to resell them. You'll likely not get much back for them, you'll be responsible for getting them to the venue, gathering them and packing them back up after, probably will need to clean them before you resell them, you'll have to store them until finding a buyer, then deal with packing and getting them shipped if you do find a buyer. Personally, not having to deal with all of that would be worth it to me to spend a bit more for a rental...if you can find a decent price.

I'm renting hem for $0.75 each. Try to find a rental company near you. If you do buy them, it should be easy to resell. I just didn't want to have the hassle of dealing with it.

$1100 seems WAY too high for 130 charger plates. We did charger plates and loved how they tied everything together, but our venue rented them to us for $0.50/each, so the cost was totally worth it. I would look into renting them somewhere or buying them used.

Wow Summer T. those are beautiful, exactly what I'm looking for. I haven't had any luck, at least at a reasonable price. So they will probably end up being one of those IDGAF things at this point. But I haven't given all hope up just yet.

$1100 is a LOT! I do love the look of them but I'll probably be the only one who really cares! Not worth the expense or hassle for me to have them.

You must want the really fancy ones, the regular gold or silver ones you can buy from dollar tree's website for $1 each. I like chargers on tables because they really help fill in up in a way that just flatware and glasses cannot. But sad reality is they are seen for a short time. I've been to a few weddings were they only put chargers on the head table and it was basically there for picture purposes.

I am thinking, why? No one will remember it. I'd put your money into what will be memorable....food, DJ, photographer, etc.
