To cruise or not to cruise...

We are leaning towards a cruise, but are getting so much advice on where to go, which line to use, etc. Since you all are the people going through these decisions too, or have gone through this decision process recently:

1. Where are you going?

2. Why or why not a cruise?

3. If you are doing a cruise, what cruise line are you using and why? (if you aren't cruising for your honeymoon but have gone on one before, that advice would be great as well!! I have never been on a cruise)

4. What are you most excited for?!

The honeymoon daydreaming is so far one of the things I like best, but want to be careful in the actual planning because of $$! :-)

Been on several cruises. With Carnival. Never got sick, service was fine. Not the bells and whistles with caviar, but we're not that type of people. Carnival seems to have younger people anyway.

Are you a person that normally gets motion sick, if you get don't sick on things like roller coasters, small boats and planes you should be fine. Also if you plan on going right after your wedding it will be right at the end of hurricane season so you might want to get insurance just incase. Have fun!

Depending on budget you could also look into river cruising. They tend to move a bit slower than a regular cruise ship. Viking river cruises often runs a 2 sail for the price of 1 booking special. They have cruises that range from 7-20+ days.

I have a long list of reasons why I have no desire to go on a cruise. Some people love them but I am not all about being trapped on a boat with a shit ton of people out in the middle of the ocean. One cough and everyone has the shits. Nope.

Thanks for all of your suggestions! We definitely want to do a cruise at some point but have decided to do an all inclusive, probably in Mexico, for our honeymoon. After realizing how tired and in need of doing nothing after our engagement party, I cant imagine how much I will want to sit at a beautiful resort for a week after the wedding. If we did a cruise, I would want to explore and do a million excursions and talk to people and have fun, and I think we need to save that for maybe an anniversary or something haha. I just need all sleep, all spending time with my man for the honeymoon. You all helped me think about cruises for the future too, so thanks!

I've been on 1 cruise and it was probably on of the best vacations ever! We went to Jamaica and Cayman islands. I didn't get sea sick at all and I do usually get motion sickness... They have so many people on board who can help you with wristbands or meds to stop sea sickness. I used Carnival the food was great so much to do on the ship and the locations were amazing!! Cruises are also way more affordable now. I'd highly recommend it!

Holly- Good choice! Also, cruises seem cheap until they slip that paper under your door with your alcohol tab on it. WOWZERS!

    1. We're going on a 4-day cruise to the Bahamas.

    2. I love cruising! I've been on two. It's actually more affordable for us as well. Probably safer as well. It'll be my FH's first time on a cruise, and I think he'd really enjoy it. I love being out in the sea. So peaceful. I highly recommend taking motion sickness medication. That way you can enjoy being rocked to sleep at night.

    3. We're going NCL cruise. I went on their 7 day cruise to Bermuda in 2008. Had such a great time. I enjoyed the shows they have at night. The staff onboard are wonderful. Medical service is included in the price if you do happen to get sick. Freestyle dining is the best. You can pick where and when you want to eat. That's definitely a plus for my FH, lol. You can select a beverage package, so that way you get unlimited drinks and don't have to worry about getting a huge tab at the end of the cruise! There are affordable and fun excursions to go on at whichever ports you go to. NCL has great deals and is the most affordable of all other cruiselines I've looked at.

    4. I'm excited to be cruising again! Looking forward to seeing the Bahamas. We're going to swim with dolphins and go parasailing! We're going to have balcony room. So I'm looking forward to sitting out there just watching and relaxing.

I looooove cruising. Definitely check out crucon.com for amazing deals. The cruise line depends a lot on what you're looking for. Carnival is more of the "party" line, NCL is a good mid-range line, Celebrity (my favorite) is catered more towards older couples. There is less to do on the ship, but no kids running around and the service is impeccable. I've done a cruise to the carribean twice now and they were both super fun.

    1. Where are you going? I've been on three cruises, one to the keys & bahamas, one to cozumel, grand cayman and belize, and one to Bermuda.

    2. Why or why not a cruise? I liked the cruises, but I don't know if they are ideal for a honeymoon. There is not much privacy. I will say that my favorite cruise was to Bermuda. I felt like the other cruises made so many stops, and you only had a few hours at each port. I didn't think there was enough time to explore. The cruise to Bermuda was awesome because we spent four days there and I felt like I had enough time to enjoy the island.

    3. If you are doing a cruise, what cruise line are you using and why? (if you aren't cruising for your honeymoon but have gone on one before, that advice would be great as well!! I have never been on a cruise). I have been on Disney and Norwegian. I would recommend both.

    4. What are you most excited for?! I think the only way I would cruise again is if there was only one port of call, and the length of time at the port was three days or more.

We're going to do a cruise for our honeymoon, first time for both of us!

We will leave out of Galveston and stop in Cozumel, Jamaica, and Grand Cayman.

We chose to do a cruise because we get to see places we would've never gone to otherwise and the price was a lot better.

We're going with Royal Carribean, I spent a lot of time researching the different cruise lines, routes, and if they had one when we wanted to go. Royal Carribean was the best fit and I've heard a lot of good things.

I'm most excited for being able to relax and visit different places. Smiley smile

We have been in Turkey and Greek Islands for one week motor sailor charter. the boats were great, all wooden made very classic and the service in the boat was perfect, We had cook, service guy running around all the time. I wasnt sea sick at all but my son was tried hard, he was ok after he had a pill. The lady in chartering company was very professional on her job that supplied everything we needed immediately. It was very nice holiday for us. If sb wants any advice , I can advise their details.

Since folks are talking about being sea sick, here's a tip that worked for me: one of the waiters pointed out that while you can't visually tell if you're moving backwards, it can really have an effect on a lot of people. At the time, I was at dinner and I wasn't feeling well -- lo and behold, I had my back to the front of the ship. Now I always make sure to be aware of which way is forward, and I've never again had an issue.

Are you a cruiser or not? I find cruisers enjoy nightlife and our social. They may love to drink or gamble. All Inclusive is a bit more slow for some of my cruise clients. All inclusive is more chill, but you can go out for nightlife. They key is finding the right ship for you. What I like personally may not be right for you. I have been on over 30 cruises and they are all different. Ship matters and the cruise line matters. It's the same with an all inclusive. You should contact a professional travel agent to assist you. You save nothing by doing it yourself. Here is the big reason to have an agent we can solve issues you may not know you will have. I was texting clients in Paris the day of the attack. They were all fine but if I had to I could have got them home faster then doing it yourself.

    1. Where are you going?

We're thinking about a cruise to the Bahamas. Yes, I know, it's hurricane season, but tickets are cheaper and they usually just reroute the ship soooo, we might do it anyway because we don't want to wait a few months.

    2. Why or why not a cruise?

I went on one cruise when I was a kid, and my entire family hated it--we didn't have stops, there wasn't much to do on the boat, and with the different ages a lot of the activities weren't appropriate. Having said that--I think going on a cruise NOW, with ports of call stops, will be nice. Just think of a cruise as a hotel you can't get out of because that's basically what it is. You want a ship that has a lot of shows, or you need to be the kind of couple that enjoys relaxation time. ( I don't, but my fiance hasn't been on a cruise and really REALLY has his heart set on it, lol).

    3. If you are doing a cruise, what cruise line are you using and why? (if you aren't cruising for your honeymoon but have gone on one before, that advice would be great as well!! I have never been on a cruise)

Don't particularly care about the line, I care more about what each ship has in the way of entertainment. Check how many shows, how many restaurants each has, and if you can, spring for a balcony suite.

Note: I get horribly, terribly motion sick in cars, trains, and watching some movies/games. I didn't get sick at all on the cruise ship, and on most boats. It IS a risk to take your first cruise for your honeymoon but doable. Buy some seabands from a store (they're pressure point bracelets) and make sure you keep hydrated with water, you'll probably be okay).

    4. What are you most excited for?!

I really just want to get away with my new husband, so I don't care too much where we go. I just want to spend the next week after the wedding having fun with him and enjoying the newlywed vibe, before having to go back to our regular lives. So even if we only end up an hour away in a cabin because we blow our budget on something else, I'll be happy. We have our whole lives for awesome vacations together.
