To everyone using/used candles in their centerpieces

Genny, on November 13, 2014 at 2:22 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 19

How do you keep them lit throughout the entire thing? Did you have any problems with them? Did it even matter if they did go out?

I found some inspiration on pinterest that I really like, but I'm worried about them going out. I thought about using the LED kind but I don't think it will look as good.

I'm using flameless for mine. I'm putting them inside a picture frame to light behind pictures. I'm not sure what/how you're using them but that might be the way to go.

Honestly, I was too busy getting down on the dance floor to notice.

Buy long burning candles. most candles will have the burn time on the package, and if you buy votives they last a lot longer. I'm thinking with mine they should stay lit because they'll be in taller vases, so they'll be protected from drafts.

I used warm-toned LEDs. They were great.

We'll have some that are in a vase in the middle and then 4 around the vase in the middle if that makes sense. The one in the middle I'm not really worried about because the candle should have a long enough burn time and it will be protected by from drafts. Its the ones around it that I'm worried about.

I think most small candles would last, just check the burn time on the package. I am more worried about things going up in flames. My mom always uses candles for family holiday dinners, and usually someone catches something on fire. I don't know how many of my mom's cloth napkins have been ruin this way. My family just isn't good with paying attention.

Check the burn time on the candles/votives. More then likely, tealights won't burn as long as votives. I was scoping out Ikea's. One vendor said there are called 'event candles' but I have not done research on them.

My mom has bought like 200 votives for the tables. We will have floating candles also, the florist is supplying those.

We were going to use regular votive candles until FH reminded me we're doing all paper flowers and inviting children to the wedding. While the venue has insurance in the event of a fire I'd really rather not make them use it. So we switched to warm led tea lights. We lucked out and found someone on a Facebook buy sell trade site who was selling them for 50 cents each.

I'm pretty sure no one will burn anything. I'll just have to keep FH away. I don't know how many candles he's ruined messing with them.

If the candles are ones that you can easily see (Not in anything just on the tables) do you think its ok to go with LED candles or does it look bad?

I think they look fine. If you have anyone call you out at your wedding for using an LED just smack them in the face. JK.

A ton of venues don't even let you use actual candles anymore so I think people are used to seeing the LEDs. They have some great ones now that even flicker so it looks a lot more realistic.

@JaKlyn LOL. Thanks. I didn't know if that was one of those things that look cheap etc. Those were great prices on your tealights. If you were having your wedding before mine I'd offer to buy them of you.

Mine stayed lit the whole time. I had 10 hour candles in votives and most were lit the whole time. I think our day of coordinator had to relight a few as she went along in the night.

@CeCe omg I would die. Ours is going to have pearl beads and sand. The sand I know will be fine. I think the pearl beads would just melt.

Oh it was hilarious - they had two catch on fire before they put the candles out, but the mother of the bride ended up getting locked out of the banquet hall for a period of time because she removed the smoking lantern to the outdoors through a side door and couldn't get back inside.

I would have been pretty embarrassed but they were really good sports about it.

Just like @Shelby said...you should be having fun at your wedding dancing or mingling and not worried about the candles going out. If it does, it does..its not the end of the world...

I couldn't tell you. They were never lit! We had votive candles to go around our centerpiece, and honestly, it was a waste of money. I asked our Wedding planner to light the candles on our sweet heart table, but since it was still early they were waiting til it got darker outside. Everyone was mingling and having a good time, never even noticed the candles.
