To Guide or Dictate (makeup)?

Meredith, on September 13, 2019 at 11:18 AM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 28

I'm having trouble deciding how to deal with the makeup for my bridesmaids. None of my bridesmaids have the exact same skin tone as me so I'm not entirely sure what to say their makeup should be. Should I say they should each go with what looks best on them or should I tell them to make themselves look as close to me as possible? Help!!!

They should do what looks best on them as long as it compliments what they're wearing.

Are you paying for a make-up artist? If not definitely allow them to choose what works best for them. If you are, maybe suggest a color palette to work from, but allow the artist to tailor it to each lady.

I let my bridesmaids choose what was best for them. All three have different complexions and styles. I wanted them to feel comfortable.

I agree with what looks best for them. I think you could give some inspo pictures of people with similar skin tones to them, and I think you could also probably give some loose guidelines like "a natural look" or "full glam" depending on how your wedding is.

Did any of the looks end up clashing? That's something I'm worried about.

Literally WHATEVER they want. I told my bridesmaids to do their own HAMU if they want, or to get it professionally done and I'll pay for it. Whatever shoes, jewelry, hair and makeup they want is totally fine as long as they feel beautiful and happy and comfortable. They all looked stunning (but they would have in normal casual clothes without makeup too).

I'm paying for my girls to get there makeup done but i also am letting them choose what they want. All of them are different races and I want them to feel beautiful and confident on our wedding day as well, because they will be in several pictures. .

Nope. The makeup is way less noticeable in photos than most people would think. My sister went with peachy glittery shadows with a more natural look, my cousin went with a Smokey eye with a natural lip with a more contoured face, and my cousin-in-law did a pink and brownish Blended eye with a pink-mauve lip.

I just asked my MU artist to make myself and my ladies (moms as well as bridesmaids) to look like ourselves - none of the makeup was exactly the same, but it all looked nice and complemented each of us - and it all went well together

I feel like each bridesmaid knows what she feels most comfortable in. I'd let them have free reign on their hair and makeup Smiley smile

I let my girls pick how they did their own hair and makeup. They don't need to look like clones.

I would definitely have them go for a look that looks great on them. We all have different features.

You should let them pick what they’re most comfortable in. Give them a style guideline... “natural” “glam” “natural glam” and have them choose from there. Everyone’s skin and styles are different. What looks best for someone’s skin might not look best for someone else

I hadn't considered letting them each pick out their own look. That way, it's as individual as they are but still looks pulled together by the dresses. Good idea. Thanks!
