To Guide or Dictate (makeup)?

I'm hearing that a lot. Where the brides let each BM go with what looks best on them. At 1st, I thought it would be easier to have them all look as similar as possible but now I realize the error of that method.

Definitely let them choose their colors based on what looks best on them, but you can always provide a heavy-hand with guiding, if you want. For example, I want my makeup and my bridesmaids makeup to look more natural, working in pinks with the eyeshadow. So I'll tell them to find eyeshadows that are light pink. Some girls have yellow undertones and some have pink, some have lighter skin and some are more tan. They can find a light pink shade that looks good on them, but that will still look cohesive.
