To makeup or not to makeup-that is the question...

Rhea, on October 8, 2019 at 4:41 PM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 7

How do you go about finding a makeup artist? I don't generally wear makeup and I'm on a tight budget. Any suggestions to take care of this part of the wedding would be great! Thanks.

The vendors tab here on WeddingWire is a great resource to start with. You can also ask friends for suggestions or check out social media.

I looked on Wedding Wire, The Knot, Yelp and Google for reviews then contacted the 10 best reviewed ones for pricing.

I’d ask around with possibly friends or family. Instagram and Facebook is always easy too because hashtags are marketing sellers. For instance, I can go on IG and search MUAPhilly and so many things will come up. Also, stores like Sephora, MAC, Macy’s etc. will do makeup at the counter. It’s not ideal but if you’re new to the art of makeup, are on a budget and have a lack of resources this can be a good help.

If you're not a huge makeup person AND you're trying to cut costs, I would seriously look into doing your own makeup. I only wear eye makeup and maybe lipstick for a special occasion (no face products) and I was really uncomfortable with the idea of a full face of makeup for hundreds of dollars on a day I want to look and feel like myself.

Everything I read said getting your makeup done professionally is a must because of the high quality photos you'll have taken on your wedding day, otherwise you'll look "washed out". Well I decided to test that theory during our engagement shoot. I did all my usual makeup (brow powder, eyeliner, mascara) plus some eyeshadow and lipstick and I love how the pictures turned out. I didn't look "washed out" at all, instead I looked and felt like me!

I feel so relieved and comfortable knowing I'll be doing my own makeup on my wedding day (and saving money), just going to practice the look a few times beforehand Smiley smile Hope this helps!

I had a friend help me with my makeup because I also don't typically wear much and didn't want to spend a lot.

Instagram and hashtag #(your city)MUA. I found one for a very reasonable price and she'll be doing my makeup for the engagement photos, as well. I also don't really wear a ton of makeup on the daily, but I know that for professional photography you need more makeup than you think, so I made sure to hire someone within my budget.

I'm having one of my bridesmaids do my hair and makeup for me in exchange for buying her dress.
