To resize the ring or not to resize- that is the question!

Annemarie, on July 18, 2019 at 3:10 PM Posted in Fitness and Health 0 15

When we got engaged, I was at the heaviest I have ever been in my life by a long shot.

I have now lost close to 25 pounds, and still have 10-15 to go before I am at my most "average" weight/size, aka what I've looked like and maintained for the majority of my life.

My ring is now loose.

Do I get it resized? After all, I'm still losing, and have not yet even gotten to what I'd consider my "typical size" that I plan to maintain from this point forward.

For the record, so that nobody tells me how big I will get again, I was in the roughest spot in my life mentally and emotionally, and physically unable to be as active as I usually am. I am marrying a personal trainer, and I have spent most of my life in what I consider extremely physically fit shape. I am very active, and the point in my life when I got engaged, is not a state I will or should have to ever be in again. I regularly participate in running races, meal prep, avoid alcohol, etc. I live a very healthy lifestyle, and have for 98% of my life.

So do I get it resized?

Right now, I can slide it up and down my finger and it *barely* even catches my knuckle at all.

I would wait to get it resized for when you’re done losing weight! For now I’d get a ring guard so that it doesn’t slip off in the meantime.

Congrats on the weight loss too!! That’s great Smiley smile

If you're afraid of it falling off then I would. It would really suck to be running around doing pictures on your wedding day and then having it fall off!!

Maybe go to your jeweler and get their opinion Smiley smile

Thank you Gen! And that is a good suggestion. The first time I got it resized, they had it back to me a few hours later so I don't need to worry about timing or anything, so I should wait for a few more pounds. Thank you!

I wouldn’t resize it until you get to a point where you’re just maintaining. You could order sizing beads from Amazon to help in the meantime

Yeah definitely wait until you’re done, or else if you do it now you will probably go have to resize it again once you lose more weight 🤷🏻‍♀️ My husband lost 50lbs between when we got engaged and when we got married... he got his ring about 9 months before the wedding and lost about 25 of those 50lbs between buying the ring, and the month before the wedding... and good thing we checked, because the month before the wedding we discovered that his ring was now a full SIZE AND A HALF too big 😂 that’s like, extremely drastic hahaha. But I’m glad we waited until he was done losing weight to do it! He says now the fear of getting too fat for his wedding ring will prevent him from gaining weight again hahaha

Hey girl! Congrats on the weight loss. My weight doesn't fluctuate, but the swelling of my fingers changes daily! So I bought some little rubber coil looking things to wind around the band on days my fingers are small. Its so hot in the summer and it fits tightly then, but when winter comes around it can slip off so easily. They cost about $3 for a pack. It looks like this:

Definitely wait before resizing, from a metallurgical point of view changing the metal on it a lot will likely weaken it and make you more susceptible to cracking later.
You can keep it on a necklace until you're at a point where you think you're weight is stabilized or reached your goal. Or get a sizer bead.

I would say maybe get a temporary resizer (they are all over Amazon) until you have made it back to your "typical" weight. I would wait until you level out and hit your goal to get it resized... kinda like a reward almost Smiley smile

I would get one of those little ring sizers on amazon util we're closer to what your "average" size is so you don't compromise the integrity of the band by having it resized several times.

I am at the same cross roads. I have lost over 60 lbs since we got engaged and when I have my hands at my sides or make sudden gestures the ring slides right off! Totally terrifying! I have a ring piece I bought that is just plastic and slides on, you can’t notice it at all when the ring is on, it’s completely comfortable, and makes the ring the perfect size. I love it. I think I am going to just leave it alone unless it becomes to big even with the extra piece on(still 30-50 lbs away from my goal). We ordered my band 1 1/2 sizes smaller and thankfully that fits perfectly!

Get it resized! It's likely free if you go back to the same place and that you got it from! Smiley smile
