To spray tan or not to spray tan??

Allison, on June 4, 2018 at 12:08 PM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 11

Hi everyone!

Does anyone with skin on the fair-er side have any experience with spray tans? I want to see if I like it for my engagement photos (which are next Wednesday) but I am afraid if it's too dark and I look ridiculous it won't wear off by the photos. Struggling on what to do!!

I've never had a spray tan before and am usually pretty pale all the time lol!

Thanks in advance!

Personally, I'd say look the way you do! You are beautiful as you are and your FH loves you as you are, especially if you don't usually get spray tans. Obviously if it would make you feel more confident, then go for it. But I don't think you need to be tanned to look gorgeous in your photos!!

I wouldn’t especially not for engagement photos. Maybe between now and the wedding you can try it out and see if it’s something you want to do for the wedding

I would be careful! Spray tans are such a pain, they either look great, or awful. No in between. Your skin tone is you, so own it!

Following. I want to know the same thing, but for my wedding not engagment photos. I would hate to look orange or streaky on my big day.

Thank you everyone! I think this is the push I needed to just be myself. I'll experiment with a spray tan when the timing isn't so important! Thanks again!

I tend to agree with the PP’s in owning your skin tone. I do however plan to get a spray for my wedding, because I’m wearing pure white and don’t want to blend in with my dress. That being said, I have been very careful with what types of spray I use (organic only) and have had numerous trials with my make up artist. If you do, I’d give yourself more time than this before an event or photo session to have a spray tan. You may not like it, you may love it. Results really are dependant on your skin.

I wouldn't try it for the first time before pictures. Try it during a down time when if it looks bad it won't ruin anything.

I'm all about the spray tans. I get mine done at a day spa, not a tanning salon, and they're hand-applied airbrush tans, not in an automated booth. They have a few different color levels, I go for the middle one, and I'm pretty fair most of the time. I would just see if there are reputable spas in your area that have different shades to offer, and go with the lightest one for your first time. Then you can gauge if it's too light/dark, or not for you.

I've had spray tans in the past and they are hit or miss. I recommend using Jergens gradual self-tanner and using the one for darker skin tones. It develops a nice tan over about 1-2 weeks and is not streaky.

I was in the same boat and decided to go for it the Thursday before my engagement pictures (taken on a Saturday) just last week and I loved how it turned out! I am really pale but my FH and co-workers all mentioned how natural it looked! I went with the lightest shade the had. Here's a picture (yes, believe or not, this is me WITH a tan lol). I even wore white and was sweating in the 85 degree heat and it didn't run or stain. I plan to get one before my shower, bachelorette party, and wedding, too! I went on Yelp and searched spray tans in my area and thoroughly read the reviews to find the best one.
