To take over or to hyphenate?

Samantha, on December 17, 2021 at 8:58 AM Posted in Community Conversations 0 4
Ok so I'm Samantha Maldonado and I'm marrying a 'Craig'....should I take his last name so it's "Samantha Craig" or just hyphenate it so it's "Samantha Maldonado-Craig"? Which one sounds better?

This is entirely personal preference and there is no right or wrong choice. You're the only person who can make this decision for yourself, as it is your name.

This is such a personal decision, which do you like the sound of better? Also consider that when hyphenating, you'll need to write the whole thing on out legal documents. If you are OK with a longer last name and prefer the sound of the hyphenated one, go with that. If you like the sound of just his last name, choose that one. It's your name and you'll need to live with it forever, so choose the one you like best.

This all depends! Either sounds nice, but what do YOU want? Do you want to hold onto Maldonado? I held onto my maiden name by making it my middle name. Smiley smile I definitely didn't want to hyphenate because I didn't want to write it all down lol! But that's just me.

I've heard that hyphenating can be a PITA when it comes to paperwork and such. I plan to just make my maiden name a second middle name. So you would be Samantha Craig, but Maldonado would still be there anytime you want it to be.
