Miss Reese, on March 15, 2021 at 9:10 AM Posted in Style and Décor 0 21
Hi guys my Fiancé and I are getting married January 15 of 22... our biggest thing is to theme or not to theme.... I've Always wanted a winter wonderland wedding but I guess the "cliché " is bothering me... our wedding colors are both our favorites royal blue and silver.... Do you guys think themes are Necessary when planning your wedding and reception?

I didn't have a theme, and I don't think any wedding I've ever been to has had a noticeable theme. A color palette is enough.

I think a theme like Winter Wonderland is still classy and sweet. What kinds of things were you thinking? I've been to weddings with a mountain fall "theme" that incorporated apple cider, maple syrup, cranberries, hay bales, and I liked that a lot

A theme is never required, but if you wanted to do a theme, I think the winter wonderland sounds like a fun one! There are lots of things you could do for it: snowy scenes or snow globes for centerpieces, hot chocolate bar, fleece blankets for favors, etc. Check out Pinterest for some inspiration pictures!

We've honestly been looking into Sooooo many different things... the problem we're noticing is alot of "accents" are not US.... and we want to walk in the room and see Us.... and outside of a hot chocolate bar because I Absolutely Love Hot chocolate...lol what I want and what I see as far as the theme itself Maynot work for Us... Or I could be just putting too much thought into it...

I've only been to one theme wedding and it was Harry Potter. Honestly if you want a theme, go for it! I don't think its cliché at all!

That makes sense! You could have both hot chocolate and coffee available. There are many ways to make it look elegant! You could also include things like marshmallows, peppermint sticks, whipped cream, different syrups (chocolate, caramel, etc), different flavors of coffee creamer, etc.

Yeah, our theme was "wedding" if you ask my husband. We chose things we liked and just made sure the colors of things were a cohesive color palette to make it all work together. Otherwise, we weren't focused on if a certain thing "fit the theme." The theme was.....pretty things we liked lol.

What things come to mind when you think of your relationship with SO? What do you think is your aesthetic?

For us, we are both into classic events, tradition, our faith, and New England. So we are going with a champagne and light blue pallete, clean lines and script, doing the big traditions (minus the garter toss haha), incorporating some traditional family foods, doing a full mass ceremony, taking pictures on the waterfront, and offering local candies as favors. Those things just feel like us

We got married in January. I decided on winter wonderland, less of a theme than a vibe that I used to guide my decisions for decor. Shades of blue, silver, bling. To theme or not to theme 1
To theme or not to theme 2

To theme or not to theme 3

My fiancé and I don’t have a theme, But I don’t think there’s anything wrong with having a theme. Sometimes it’s actually really great and fun. I think winter wonderland theme is amazing! Sometimes when people do themes the decor looks cheap, so as long as you keep in mind to not do any of the cheesy decor. For example, in my opinion ice sculptures are great! Snowflakes everywhere are not.

I don’t think themes are necessary! Royal blue and silver would be great colors though together

I don't think a theme is necessary. You can style your wedding around your chosen colors and add wintery aspects without having to claim a theme.

I'm planning my stuff and cant really see the point of a theme. I think you should go off your colors and see what decorations and stuff really pop out to you. I think you'll be able to pin point what "theme" you want once you start to see what things you really like together with your colors. That's how I'm navigating through my decorations if that helps at all. Royal blue and silver are beautiful colors and I think you could do something very magical with them.

Not necessary but can be fun and sometimes help keep your style in sync while planning! Winter Wonderland is so romantic.

Do what works for you. Many here hate the word theme for unknown reasons but don't realize it means the same thing in this context as vibe or aesthetic. Why one is ok and the other isn't is forever a mystery. Your wedding will not look like a kids party at all. A theme/vibe/aesthetic/whatever helps keep the look cohesive instead of random mishmash that doesn't go together.

The winter wonderland theme will be stunning! Go for it.

Only theme if it feels "you".

The theme weddings I have been to have always been about the couple's interests and passions. Like... a Jane Austen meets Godzilla wedding. (The ring bearer's pillow was a "monster", and the centerpieces were Austen covers with characters replaced by Godzilla, and so on.) Our wedding was themed around our favorite baseball team, because we were set up by a friend as the only two people he knew that were absolutely demented about the Phillies. (...Our apartment is themed around the Phillies. It's a THING with us.)

The thing about weddings is that most things aren't "mandatory" beyond the couple, a license/officiant, and food for any guests.
