Too early for dress shopping?

Danielle, on April 13, 2021 at 11:39 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 12
Hey guys! I am getting married October of 2022. Would July or August of this year be to early to start looking for dresses? I have heard it is taking 6-8 months just to get the dress in. I am worried that if I wait, I might not have time for alterations. Please let me know your thoughts!

No, that is not too early. Most bridal boutiques will suggest ordering your dress at least 10 months before your wedding to make sure you have time for it to arrive and have alterations done. I think July or August is a perfect time to start shopping so you won't be rushed when making your decision.

Definitely not too early! Even before Covid, it was suggested to start dress shopping about a year out.

Agreed, I bought my dress 14 months before my wedding. I know a couple people who bought their dresses 6 months before, but I just didn't want the stress and rush haha. Plus you may take some time to find the dress. Have fun!

I bought my dress 10 months out and the timing worked out perfectly. I was itching to go earlier but mom and FH made me wait lol.

Definitely not too early! I went dress shopping July 2020 for my October 2021 wedding, and the dress Didn’t come in until December 2020. It gives you more time just in case there are issues with it being delivered. Rather get it a little earlier than too late!

No, I think that sounds just about right. I started shopping 16 months before my original wedding date. I've now had my dress for a little more than two years.

If you have no idea what you want then definitely start looking around in case it takes you a bit to find something you love Smiley heart

About a year out is pretty normal! I knew exactly what I wanted, but I still went and tried on a ton of different styles just to make sure! I ordered my dress about 2 weeks ago, and was told it should get here in October, which is perfect to get alterations by my wedding in March 2022

It's definitely a personal choice, but if you want to start then I don't think it's too early. It gives you some extra time to narrow down your choices and make sure you won't have a massive time crunch with alterations.

I think it's fine. I bought my dress in June last year for September this year because I was worried things might be delayed due to covid. My dress was scheduled to come in by late November, early December, and I figured with Christmas and new years, it might not be until January or Feb until I actually got it. But in the end it came in 6 weeks early, at the end of October.

I will say, how long alterations take will depend very much on what you're having done. My alterations lady wants me in for my first fitting 3 months before the day since there are some major changes to the neckline we might do, so you're not too early at all, depending on what you end up needing done.
