Too soon for bridesmaids dresses?

Jess, on November 10, 2020 at 3:38 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 17
I’m getting married 8/27/2021 and I am having my bridesmaids/ MOH/ grooms-woman pick out their own dresses off of Azazie due to COVID restrictions and having several bridesmaids in different states. When is an appropriate deadline to have them order their dresses? I was thinking December/January but that is still 8 months before my wedding. Is that too early?

Thanks in advance!!!!

I think its too early. I would give them until the end of May 2021. People can change with body weight especially now with COVID. I see so many people have gained 10 to 20 lbs since working from home full time.

It’s a little too early. I agree with the previous people. May the latest! I’m getting married on 4/3/21 & we’re going to look next weekend. My sister is my MOH & ordered an infinity dress off of Amazon that we’re gonna play with. Super excited!

I actually disagree with everyone else and think that’s fine. I’ve heard that it can take up to 6 months for the dresses to come in and then they need time to get them altered if needed.

Azazie doesn’t take 6 months. Max of 12 weeks and usually less than that.

I got married in August 2018 and asked my bridesmaids to order by April. Everything turned out fine! Some people ordered in March, some ordered in April, and one ordered in June and it was all still fine. Everyone was able to get them altered with no issues, but most people did get them custom sized and that was a great option!

We are doing something similar, ordering some samples off azazie in January so they can get an idea of what they want. Then they can order as long as it’s done by April. There really is no right and wrong answer as to when...my mom already has her dress ordered.

I had my bridesmaids place their dress orders around 7 months out (through Dessy, not Azazie). It may have been on the early side, but online retailers like these are constantly discontinuing certain styles and colors. My girls were free to choose their style from the selection that I put in the showroom, but there was a very specific color that I wanted so I didn't see the point in waiting because I was afraid that it could possibly be discontinued. Plus, I managed to find a promo code to use which ended up saving them 20% which would have expired had we waited. Also, if you're using Azazie, then your bridesmaids may want to do the try on at home program, so you should build in time for that. I had my bridesmaids place their orders together so that the dresses were made from the same dye lot.

My wedding is in August 2021 too and I chose Azazie as well. I told the ladies to pick their dresses at least by May. A few chose to get theirs early. I explained they can pick their style, just stick with the color dusty rose.

I think it's fine! I'm also getting married August 2021 and all my girls have ordered their dresses already. I wasn't giving them the deadline till March but, they all appreciated checking it off their lists. Then again my girls and I went to David's Bridal (2 groups of 2 plus MOH had a separate appointment). Plus now they have time to get alterations (which due to Covid appointments could get backed up).

I agree with a pp about colors and styles going out of style. And while Azzazie might have a 12 week minimum that doesn't take into account if they have to try different styles and sizes multiple times (since formal dress sizes are different than everyday dresses)
With all that said, I dont think it's too soon. I would weigh the pros and cons and maybe ask your girls what they think.

I think it's too early. I bought mine 8 months ahead and changed my mind on the style I picked but there was nothing I could do

It’s your wedding do what you want! Tell them what color and where to order but then leave it up to them. Im sure they will order in a timely manner 😀

I'm in the same boat as you - getting married in August and having my bridesmaids pick their own dresses and order from Azazie. Because of potential manufacturing or shipping delays that could occur, I don't think ordering by winter is too early! Better to err on the side of caution Smiley smile That way, it also gives your friends time to get their dresses altered if needed without worrying about a time crunch.

If they are set on that design, I'd say go for it. The last thing you'd want is for it to be discontinued and have to start fresh. You can always have it altered depending if anyone's weight shifts. Maybe just have them include some extra length so they can still have time to think about shoe options?

I'm 6/13/2021, and my MOH is ordering hers from Azazie next month. We wanted her to order hers first before anyone wastes money if it's not what they're looking for (none of us have ordered from Azazie before). This is the design we're getting:

I'm getting married July '21 and I've already asked my girls to pick their dresses off Azazie. Some haven't though but that's fine! We haven't finalized what colors they'll be wearing yet, and we probably won't be asking them to purchase them until March/April/May. My friend used Azazie for her wedding (has been postponed, thanks Covid:/ ), and my bridesmaid dress came in 6 weeks. It came in a garment bag that folds up so it stores effortlessly in my closet. If you want your girls to order them now, they shouldn't have any problem hanging onto it for a few months and stick it in the back somewhere, but in my experience it shouldn't take more than 2-3 months for them to process your girls' orders. Hope it makes you feel a bit less stressed!

I'm having my bridesmaids getting dresses in December. And my wedding is August 14th 2021. I'd rather them have them early and know they will have them, then have them wait until a little closer to the wedding and then not be able to get the dresses because of things getting shut down again because of Coronavirus.

It's too soon. Btw that's what my bridesmaids used. I'd say three months prior because they were able to try on their top two and return the ither one. Or they were able to order two sizes and stay with the right one. Delivery right now is taking 3 weeks.
