Trader Joe's or Sam's Club for diy Flowers?

Rebecca, on June 21, 2019 at 6:59 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 1 4

Hello!

I've been doing a lot of research on the best place to DIY flowers from, and I think I've narrowed it down to Trader Joe's or Sam's Club. Anyone willing to share anything and everything they know about either place? Experiences/photos to share?

Our ceremony is in a wooded amphitheater and our reception is in a warehouse in downtown Minneapolis. The look I'm going for is an enchanted forest. I want to use a TON of greenery and wildflowers (so color of flower doesn't matter so much). I attached photos of the look I'm going for below.

The issue is it's hard to gauge how much I need to buy. I'm trying to stay around $500, but I'm not sure if that will give me enough stems. I want flowers and greenery to be just about everywhere, covering everything... Anyone have photos of their flowers in bulk before you did anything with them? I'm having a hard time visualizing how much $500 will actually get me. Live greenery and flowers are going to be the only decor we have.

Here's what I'm thinking I need stems for:

Ceremony arch

Bridal bouquet

5 bridesmaids bouquets

11 boutonnieres

4 corsages

2 flower girl flower crowns

12 aisle runner swags

25 feet of greenery garland (Getting this pre-made from Costco for $89!)

Centerpieces for 20 tables

Greenery chandelier

And a TON of extra stuff to place around.

I'm all ears to any ideas, suggestions, words of encouragement, advice, etc!

Thanks!

Becca

I will be using Trader Joe’s! They allow you to order flowers for the same price, it just depends on what’s in season. White roses are always available, as are most other “typical” flowers.

Well, this is what $300 got me ordering bulk from FiftyFlowers.com , if that helps start the visualization. I certainly wouldn’t say it’s a “ton” all laid out, but I will say it was way *more* than what I needed for my decor — though I kept everything simple and had flowers as more of an accent than a major component. From these flowers I made : 4 bouquets, 5 boutonnières, 16 centerpieces, 6 stuffed flower buckets for aisle decor (the buckets pictured with the blue stripe!), and a few flowers in vases through out. I kept it simple as it was pretty labor intensive to DIY! I DID over-order for what I needed and did have a lot of extra flowers leftover (I probably could’ve skipped at least 1 of the bunches!), so my picture of $300 of flowers and list of what they were used for does not account for every flower .

I love your inspo! Your vision sounds lovely. I'm going for a similar vibe. I'll spend $800 for 24 small centerpieces, an arch, my bouquet, and a couple corsages and a boutonniere, but that's through a florist.

When you buy in bulk I think you pick your stem count. I dont think you're going to get as much as you want for $500 because of the variety in the bouquet. Maybe pick 3-4 things. I dont know if you can find those exact flowers on the bouquet but you can probably recreate the texture and some of the colors. These are prices at Sam's for reference.

Can you use lighting too to go for your vibe? Twinkle lights, candles, hung lanterns, cheesecloth runners etc?
