Traditional Tapping of the Glass for Bride and Groom to kiss; I want to change this up a bit...

APages, on April 23, 2011 at 9:58 PM Posted in Community Conversations 1 6

Instead of kissing when a guest taps a glass, we are giving our Bridal Party small bells and minutes after someone taps their glass, they would ring their bell (in turn) and we would kiss. Later in the night they would give their bells to the guest of their choice. Does this sound like fun?

That is a cute idea! I never got the whole tapping a glass thing. I thought it was dumb at my sisters wedding. She didn't even know why they were doing it at first until people started yelling to kiss! Lol!

We are giving all guests a bell to ring. I am not sure you will be able to hear if its just your wedding party ringing the bell and not sure others would understand.

My FH's friend did something different too: Whenever someone stood up and sang a line from a love song to them, they would kiss. I like that better, it's too easy to abuse the other ones lol That's why they had it announced otherwise. Gotta make ita lil more tough for them guests ;D

It's a great idea provided that the bells won't drive you crazy every few minutes. Perhaps you should designate a person (perhaps your MC or DJ) to say ring it every 45 minutes or so. They can stand up and say "time to ring the bell" and everyone can ring it. That would make it more fun!

I am doing something very similar. My place card holders are actually little bells with a loop on top to hold the place card. On the back of the place card I plan to have something printed like "If you'd like to share in our wedded bliss, ring the bell to see us kiss" or something similar. Personally, I find the glass tapping kind of tacky and obnoxious, but to each his own.

I plan on doing something a little more difficult, like Bre said. Tapping and ringing would get on my nerves REAL quick.

I also saw somewhere, that if someone was requesting the newlyweds to kiss, they had to kiss someone first. (Ideally, married or dating couples would do this... Might get a little weird with the singles lol)
