Just for fun... What are some of your family wedding traditions?? For one of my family wedding traditions at the end of the ceremony the bride and groom do not walk hand in hand down the aisle, instead the bride gets into a wheelbarrow the brides parents have gifted them and the groom wheelbarrows...

What are some of your family wedding traditions??

For one of my family wedding traditions at the end of the ceremony the bride and groom do not walk hand in hand down the aisle, instead the bride gets into a wheelbarrow the brides parents have gifted them and the groom wheelbarrows the bride down the aisle and to the reception space. So my family usually tries to keep the ceremony and reception pretty close in distance. The record is 3 miles in my "small" hometown, it was pretty epic, so I hear, I was only about 2 when it happened.

I'm so excited to take my short ride in the wheelbarrow

At my parents wedding my dad's family (Polish) gave my mom an apron and pinned little baby dolls to it. It's supposed to help with fertility in the future. obviously it didn't work since it took my parents 10 years to get pregnant. we will not be doing that.

I love when weddings have family traditions incorporated!! Especially uncommon ones like this. It adds some fun to a typically boring, run of the mill ceremony. I also love knowing the background of these traditions though, so maybe as you're getting in the wheelbarrow your officiant can explain what the tradition is and what is symbolizes.

I am part polish. So it's the dollar dance at receptions.

Unless that's universal lol. Bride wears the lace thing ( don't remember the name lol) maid of honor

Wears the apron. And the song Sandstorm. It has no words, but

    It's fun to dance

    To!

There havnt been any weddings in the family for a long time so I'm fairly certain there are no traditions. The last one to get married on either side was probably 10-15 years ago...

Except my cousin who was 2 years ago. Maybe we'll start a new NON tradition of no garter/bouquet toss...she didn't do one, I don't want to do one, and her sister just got engaged and i can't imagine her wanting to do it either!

My families tradition was getting married inside my great grandmothers house! My great great grand parents, great grand parents, grandparents and my parents got married in the same giant living room. However that is no longer an option for me because after my grandmother passed the house was sold =( but OP I love your tradition I can't wait to see pictures!!

We don't really but went to a wedding in Kenya and they had all kinds of traditions that were interesting to watch.

    1. Few days before wedding the elder women came to the brides house carrying and clanging around bottles of sodas and singing songs to the bride...then we set outside and drank the sodas.

    2. On the wedding day African tribal women with maybe 100 people show up the house and sing, dance, and chant while walking the bride to the car.

It was a fun experience all around.

@Wendy did the sodas spew when you opened them after clanging?? I love #2!

My family has no traditions, but I will be doing a tradition from my FH's family who are from Morocco and I am psyched about it. I will be carried around in an amaria. Woohoo!

@FutureMrsB no, oddly enough they didn't. They were the old time glass bottles so maybe that's why. They carried them in crates banging them around. It was funny.

@Mrs. K same here, no garter/bouquet toss either! I would toss the bouquet but there are only 3 unmarried women amongst my guest list.

My wedding will be the first wedding in over 20-25 years for both of our families. I don't think there are traditions! Both sides keep saying they know nothing about modern weddings.

We don't have any ceremony traditions, but we always make the apple strudel recipe my great-great-grandmother brought over on the boat from Russia in 1905. Everyone always loves it and it's definitely a good talking point.
