Train too long to bustle?! Help! 1
I was told my train is too long to bustle and I should shorten it. I absolutely refuse. The train is one of my favorite things about this dress. Anyone ever bustled a cathedral length train before? I need suggestions please because I can’t leave it down but there’s gotta be some way I can keep the dress and pin it up for dancing.

I’m not a seamstress. It seems like there could/should be a way to like double bustle it. Like pull it up into a bustle. Then, pull up the part that’s still too long?
It does look like your dress looks delicate. I can’t really tell from the picture. Is there a possibility that a bustle would be too heavy for the material? Have you tried a Google search of how others have bustled your dress?
It’s a gorgeous train and I wouldn’t want to shorten it either. I’d go get a second opinion.

Please do NOT shorten that gorgeous train, and take it somewhere else for another opinion. A multi-point bustle is possible. Not saying it might not snag a little, but that would be after the wedding, and worth it in my opinion to keep the train!

I have a ball gown with a cathedral train (much heavier than yours as it has several layers). I haven’t actually had my alterations yet, but I went in for my viewing and the seamstress said the American bustle would be the best fit (probably 15 points). She said it wasn’t going to be a problem at all & it’s included in my alterations package ($250). She also held it up to show me what it would look like & it didn’t ruin the look of my dress at all. Get a 2nd opinion! (Alternatively, you could look into a train loop since the fabric is so light).

My train was very similar to Christy's and my dress had 15 bustles. I'm sure there is a way to bustle it. I'd get other opinions.

I ended up doing a French bustle since my train was long AND heavy. It can be done!

Another vote for get another opinion! Heaps of dresses have trains like that and it just isn’t plausible to me that they couldn’t be bustled. Sounds like they think it will be too much work for the money and can’t be bothered!

Shorten that train?!?! No way! My dress had and 8ft train and while it was a big poof of tulle on my ass it was up off the ground. They bustled with 15 buttons. It may not be “pretty” but there is absolutely ways to bustle it.

I've never heard of any dress that can't have a bustle of some degree. Definitely take it somewhere else. From what I'm seeing (I could be wrong though) your train is a single layer of lace - the fabric of your dress stops once it hits the ground and is not included in the train. If this is the case, your train should be fairly light and a bustle - French or American - shouldn't be a problem. Best of luck to you!

Get a new seamstress-they don't know what they're talking about. Why would gown designers make beautiful, long trains if there wasn't a way to bustle them? That's nuts.

You need a french bustle and your seamstress obviously was talking about an over/american bustle. If she can't do an under bustle, find someone who can. My train is just as long and my bustle is an under bustle and came out perfect.

I agree with everyone else. Get a second opinion. That train is too beautiful to shorten! There are different types of bustles and maybe that seamstress isn’t aware. My first dress had fifteen points in it so it can definitely be done.
