Transfer of Deposits

Hi, is anyone else’s hair stylist keeping their deposit for the original date and taking a new deposit for the postponement date? I feel like she should put my first deposit towards the postponed date where I did not cancel her and it’s only postponed because of COVID

I think that is odd but it depends on what your contract says. For example, my photographer I did not pay in full just the deposit but wanted to deduct an hour and she said once contracts are signed and in place hours can be added not deducted. Each business does their thing to stay financially okay.

Personally, I understand keeping the deposit if she could have provided the service but you changed the date, because theoretically she could have booked someone else for the original date if she wasn’t holding it for you. She has to make money too, but I understand your frustration because this was completely out of your control.
Maybe if you talk to her about it you can work something out. I didn’t expect my deposit back from the rental company because the contract said I would forfeit it if I cancelled, but when I reached out they refunded me 100%.

I fee like with COVID they should not be charging fees or new deposits. I had no issues changing the date with any of my vendors. Not sure if it’s because you changed your date now that most weddings later in the year aren’t being changed just yet?

Ok thanks! Every other vendor has moved our deposit. I decided to postpone in early May but she just emailed me a new contract for my April date and I asked about the new deposit. I don’t mind paying a deposit to save the new date but would like the money from my first deposit to also go towards the new date but it’s not. Especially because wedding venues in MA are not open yet.

I am in MA and can't believe wedding venues can't open yet. There are still some people who have smaller weddings or are willing to cut their guest list down to get married. I am concerned because I heard it is a part of phase 4 which is where clubs/arenas are at. It's just NOT the same thing!!

I got a new contract from my DJ but I did not need to put down a new deposit. I feel some people always take advantage of the situations. Obviously with COVID its a different circumstance it's not that you are rescheduling for other reasons.
