Transportation Between Venues

Jennifer, on July 1, 2022 at 2:59 AM Posted in Planning 5 7
I’m starting to get quotes for shuttles to take the wedding party between the hotel (reception) and the chapel (ceremony) venues and back. However, it’s a small town with no transportation services and the closest one is 40 miles away. Even though it’s literally only 10 minutes between venues, I have to pay $500-600 for an 18-passenger shuttle and nothing even fancy like a limo. I personally don’t think this is worth it, but I don’t know. I’d hate to ask the wedding party to have to drive to the chapel and back especially since I’m sure there’s some drinking going on while getting ready. What are our other options? Also, taxis and ride shares don’t exist here.

Does anyone want to be a DD? Or someone who isn’t going to drink as much? $500-600 is a bit extreme for a 10 mins drive. I’d first ask them if they would be willing to drive back & forth to see if they’d be okay with it.

If it's only 10 minutes apart I would honestly just have everyone car pool. You don't want people to be too drunk for your ceremony anyways so there should be enough sober people to get you to the ceremony and back. I'm assuming everyone is staying at the hotel after the reception so they'll already be there and won't have to worry about a ride home after the reception. They can enjoy themselves then.

They're adults. Your good friends can manage their own time, drinking schedule, and transport for a 10 minute ride. If you need to coordinate them, put your always tardy friend with the punctual driver and they should get to the ceremony on time.

Good idea! Just asked my wedding party, but asking my fiancés to ask his party (or getting him to do anything wedding related) is like pulling teeth. I assigned him a few tasks (like asking transportation companies for quotes) and I’ve had to end up doing everything anyway lol

True! I’ll ask my wedding party their thoughts on that carpooling between the venues. It just seems so silly to me because the ceremony itself is like 20 min max haha. I’d rather put that $500-600 elsewhere

Lol I understand. Hopefully he’ll ask sooner than later. I’d assume they should be okay with it.

We’re not offering anything. We’re all adults and can figure out how to be responsible drivers. My fiancé and I have to be at our venue very early to set up and get ready so we’re just driving over in the morning and driving ourselves back to our hotel at the end of the night
