Transportation to Hotel Blocks

Em, on May 9, 2023 at 10:48 PM Posted in Planning 0 6
Hi All! There has been some differing opinions on transportation for my wedding. I believe we should be offering transportation from the hotel block options to and from the reception. One hotel is across the street, the other is about 10 miles away closer to the ceremony. I feel like this is pretty common now. Pros and cons?

There is no right or wrong. Providing transportation is just a courtesy, and while not uncommon, it's also not obligatory. Advantages are the convenience as well as keeping drunk guests off the road, although it is their responsibility to have a designated driver or other means of transportation if they drink, not yours.

The only con I can think of would be the cost.

Totally depends on your budget. The hotel that's right across the street, I would say don't bother. For the one that's 10 miles away, providing a shuttle is a nice gesture, but not required.

I agree with this. A shuttle for the hotel across the street isn't really necessary, but the further one might be nice to have a shuttle for. Does the hotel have a shuttle that you could reserve? That may be cheaper than booking through a separate company. Otherwise, if pricing is out of budget or it's a hassle to set up, it's totally fine to skip it altogether.

I just booked my shuttle for my Hotel guests. Most of the guests staying at the Hotel are grateful they can enjoy the open bar. I believe it is a great accommodation and worth the money.

Providing and covering costs for guest travel expenses (lodging, transportation, etc) is a recent Instagram trend. People from your parents’ generation and prior did not offer or pay for these for guests and it was never considered a faux pas. Guests provided their own transportation, paid for their own rental cars and booked their own hotels or stayed with local relatives with zero drama. But inexplicably now because of its popularity on Instagram, it is considered taboo by many to not offer that and go into debt doing so.

There is zero reason to provide a shuttle for either hotel. Guests can walk across the street to one and call an Uber//Lyft for the other. This is not responsibility at all to provide or arrange.

I'm providing transportation. I'm kind of against the common opinion on this forum, but I think if you're hosting a party with alcohol, it's your obligation as a host to provide transportation. I don't think you'd need it if pedestrians can cross the street, though.
