Dedicated December 2021

Transportation

on January 30, 2021 at 11:51 PM Posted in Planning 1 21
Hi everyone!

So, my husband and I (we eloped 12/12) are having a ceremony and reception later this year and we’ve received a lot of different advice on whether or not to provide a shuttle or bus to and fro the hotel from our venue. There is about a 3-minute drive from the venue to the hotel, so as much as we want to provide this for our guests, in this day and age with Uber/Lyft/etc, it seems a little wasteful money wise to spend probably around at least $1000 for such a short trip. There isn’t a right or wrong answer here, we just want to know some more opinions! Also, please don’t tell me I’m a cheap bride or anything like that for asking this question 😬 the last year has really taken a toll on us, as I’m sure it has all of you 😊Thanks in advance!!

Transportation is always nice, but not required. We provided it because the hotel we had our hotel block at had a shuttle for about $200, so it was worth it to us.

Thank you for the input! Our hotel offers a shuttle as well, but is unsure as of now if they’ll be offering it due to Covid.

Yeah, I definitely wouldn't spend $1000 on transportation, but if the hotel can offer the shuttle for little or no cost, then that's a nice bonus for guests and helps to limit drinking and driving.

That is a very short distance, so I don't think it is necessary to get the shuttle in that case.

I was literally just thinking about if I should do this for my wedding because from the ceremony location to the reception it is a 30 minute drive. Now going to start my research.

Right! Keeping everyone safe is my top priority. I’ve heard of people having QR codes for Uber at the bar, so we’re thinking of looking into that, to encourage responsibility!

Thanks! Yeah, most of the weddings I’ve been to have had quite a distance between venue/reception and hotel. Good luck with your research!!

A majority of weddings I have attended did not have transportation and honestly never had a second thought about it 😊 with covid, we actually eliminated group transportation, so this may be a safer route even if covid is minimized (flu, colds, etc.). Good luck!! ❤️

I would look into an Uber group code instead maybe. You do have to make a small non-refundable deposit, but then your code with cover trips up to a pre-designated amount of your choice, andyou only get charged if guests use it. For such a short trip, this might make more sense than a sunk investment in shuttles, etc. and you can feel like you are still providing your guests a safe option if needed.

Of course guests always love a shuttle but I don't think I'd spend $1000 for a 3 minute drive honestly. The only reason I'd consider it is because I know some people wouldn't want to get into an Uber during covid. But depending on the price, the QR code is a great idea! I'm definitely going to look into that for my wedding.

Thank you! Yeah, our hotel typically offers a shuttle service but doesn’t currently due to the pandemic. Health and safety of our guests is the top priority and while we’d hope that they would wear their masks on the drive and that it would be enforced, it’s still pretty close quarters!

Yeah, it’s just so clear to us that the money could go to something better! We’ll definitely look into the code.

As a guest, as long as I know what the local options are in case I want to drink and not drive (taxi, Uber, hotel shuttle), then that’s great!

If the shuttle is free then go with that. I wouldn't pay the extra expense for the Uber

Honestly, never been to a wedding where transportation was an option for guests. I’m not planning on providing that for mine. Our ceremony & reception is in the same location.

We’re getting married September of 2022 so hoping COVID calms down by then. We are planning on getting a hotel block for whoever wishes to use it as we are at the age where everyone’s moving and buying houses so we don’t know if everyone will still be local to our venue even tho they are now (ourselves included) we’re planning to get our own hotel room the night before the wedding and the night of so my bridesmaids and I can get ready there in the morning.

I’m also toying with the idea of transportation to and from the hotel even if it’s just for the bridal party. We’re having a night wedding, and our bridal party especially are partiers who like to drink and I don’t want anyone drinking and driving even if it is 3 minutes up the road and don’t want anyone to feel that they cant enjoy the wedding with a drink if they have to drive home after.
I know some people just rent a school bus, I’m not sure if that’s cheaper or not than doing an actual formal limo service, but I would check out the local school bus company to see if they can assist!

We don’t want anyone drinking and driving either! I think we’re going to look into an Uber QR code.

I didn’t know Uber offered that, I just looked it up!

My only concern with that would be people utilizing it to go home and not to the hotel, so the ride cost could get up there depending on how far people live from your venue!

Check out school bus company’s through your local school district. They are much more affordable then formal shuttle services. I have a very large family all from out of town and we are providing school busses to and from the hotel to venue. Although, we do have a longer drive then your distance.

We are in the same situation and I am not paying for transportation. There are cabs and Uber for that and carpool. We are paying for our wedding ourselves and can't afford over $1,000 for a 3-5 minute ride!
