Transporting cupcakes

elizabeth, on April 5, 2013 at 7:04 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 16

For my wedding in Aug I am making my cupcakes instead of buying them or a cake. I am going to bake and freeze them a month in advance then have a frosting party a day or two before my wedding. My question is how should i transport them? I am going to have 150-200. Anyone have a clever box idea?!?!

I have a side business of making alcohol infused cupcakes. Smiley smile You can buy the bakery boxes from a supply store that way they will be transported without any issues. Otherwise, you can use tupperware that are large enough. I do mini cupcakes so I can fit a lot more in a containers.

Also, you can decorate them ahead of time and freeze for a month. My leftovers are kept frozen for up to two months and my friends still rave over them.

They have cupcake carriers... You'd need several, but having at least one in normal life is actually pretty helpful. I have the third one and I love it! Smiley smile

Take a shirt box like you would get for christmas. Cut a cross in 12 places on the top of the box. Fold them in and put your cupcakes in them. Google shirt box cupcake holder.

MJ - that's great! Most bakery sections of grocery stores will sell you cake boxes - that way you don't have to pay for shipping from on online source or find a supply store.

Make sure the container is DEEP enough to put the cover on without any problems. So, measure the cupcake AFTER it's decorated.

You have no idea how many stores I went to with a tape measure trying to find ones for MINI cupcakes. I needed them to be the right size for perfect storage in my freezer (to save space!)

Just remember, when storing in the freezer your containers must be fairly airtight. So, cardboard boxes will only be good for transporting.

I can't really take credit. My mom made wedding cakes etc for years. Everytime we got a pair of pants at the store we had to ask for a gift box so she would never have to pay for them.

Heather. I was going to wrap them in plastic wrap....would that still work or would the frosting get freezer burned?

Put them in plastic wrap and then a box. If you box your meat it wont get freezer burn. We make sure to always brown bag ice cream too. It sure helps.
