Travel agent vs. booking on your own

The last 3 trips I/we have taken have been booked online ourselves. One to cancun was on funjet.com that has deals and such (that was a weekend girls trip at a big all-inclusive hotel). FH is very much against the huge all inclusive resorts and we usually stay at boutique hotels. That has been VERY nice but expensive. So I'm trying to find a smaller all inclusive somewhere tropical that is affordable. Can a travel agent help find as good of deals as you can online? What are the pros/cons of using a travel agent?

I fell in love with this place called The Jade or something like that in St. Lucia, but the cost is as much as my whole wedding budget LOL, so that's out.

Our travel agent actually helped us narrow down a great spot for our honeymoon that we wouldn't have thought about and are really looking forward to. We are staying in some boutique hotels and he has taken the time to follow up with the hotels multiple times to get the best rooms for the price, something I wouldn't have patience to do. Also, we are jumping around on a few flights throughout the honeymoon, so he has researched and booked everything. It's been great to not have to worry about honeymoon planning as well as wedding planning (he does run everything by us first) and will be great to not be going crazy confirming reservations and last minute details right before the wedding which will I'm sure be the busiest time. He does charge a small fee but totally worth it for us. As a background, we have planned all prior vacations including overseas trips ourselves so are fully capable, but have really enjoyed having the travel agent this time around!!!
