Yes, they can usually get better rates as well give suggestions to help plan your honeymoon. They typically get a percentage from the properties when you book, so you're not paying for their services. We had a travel agent for our honeymoon, which came in handy when our flight was canceled while we were already driving to the airport that morning. They got us on another flight a few hours later.

I think it depends on your destination. In my experience, travel agents are definitely worth it for going to the Caribbean, but for places like Europe, you will often find much better deals on your own when booking directly with hotels, etc.

We use Costco travel (which is technically a travel agent) and it 100% saves us money-not up front, but in the form of perks on the vacation and Costco money later (still free money) and then we get 2% back on the amount we paid for the vacation back later. Wins 3 times over.

We went to Excellence El Carmen in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. It was amazing, and I highly recommend it.

We're using a travel agency to book our honeymoon to Japan. They've been amazing and really flexible with our requests and have gotten us great rates as well as made some good suggestions that aren't the usual tourist stuff. I feel a lot better knowing we have someone wrangling all that for us who we can contact if we need help while we're there.
